i just rebuilt my blaster so i decided to go ride it . when i first got on it, i was riding on 1st gear and the gear just seemed to be way too short. same thing happened on 2nd gear. i would pin it and really quick it would top out. it would just wouldnt go to the top rpms and it sounds like a limiter cuts it off mid way through the rpms. once i get past 2nd gear, all the other gears rev up fine. i can really feel the power on 3rd, 4th, 5th. like i can get really high on the rpms before shifting on 3rd,4th and 5th, gears). at first i though it was my clutches, but i'm not sure. maybe it's a jet, but like i said i dont know. is there anything that can limit the rpms on 1st and 2nd gear and not cause problems for the rest of the gears ? any help is appreciated, i need it bad. it sucks cuz my step dads 300ex beats me just cuz my take off sucks do to my 1st and 2nd gear problems, once i get on 3rd, i start catching up lol

Did u have your bottom end Rebuilt?..Sounds like something in your gears is in incorrectly..Causing you to have lowered your gears making shorter Gears shorter and longer Gears Longer.Does anyone agree.I would deffinitly Check your gears out and possiably add some gear oil. Also have you done any Chain Conversions if so that would also Cause your problems.

tighten your air screw all the way in and turn it 1.5 turns out.
usually loosening your air screw can seem to make your gears shorter because the engine is revving so much faster at lower speeds

i did cut a link out of my stretched chain, but it looks good, not too tight, not too loose. and my neighbor, adjusted all the carb screws, and i'm guessing he did it right cuz it idles perfect. i can let it sit their, go inside, eat a sandwich and it would still be on. i'll still check the screws just to be on the safe side. and i just dont get it, cuz the blaster runs like an absolute beast from 3rd and up, like it's got so much power, and u can feel when it's in powerband, but it's dogshit in first and second.

this is just something to check. since you did a top end check to make sure your reeds are seating or sealing against your cage correctly. my opinion is you would notice a reed problem more in the lower gears rpms/powerband than the higher ones.

well me and my neighbor noticed that my reeds were a lil cracked at the top, and one of them wouldn't close as tightly as the other reed did... u think that might be the problem? it runs and idles fine, but just doesnt respond well on first and second gear.

Replace them. Nothing good can come from leaving them. And they could very well be your problem, so change them and go from there.

well guys i put in my brand new boyesen power reeds yesterday night. I went to test it out today and it still has the same problem. I cant get to the top of my rpms on 1st and 2nd gear. could it be a clutch plate ? or maybe jetting ? that's the only 2 things that seem rational to me, any help ??? i'm geting frustrated, i'm ready to wipe out my step dads 300ex, but those two gears really slow me down, when i hit 3rd gear i start catching up, but he's already got me beat by 10ft. He has a highly modded 300ex, and i know i can spank it, but i just need my crucial take off. please any suggestions are appreciated

jetting would be cheaper to start with. how fast does it rev up to rpms in first and second? could be clutch plates if it just instantly revs without noticing much gain or your cable isn't adjusted right possibly.

sounds like a jet problem. my wifes blaster wouldn't hit the pipe until I re jetted it,, it was fat on the main so I ended up removing my air box lid. try to lean it a very little bit or if you still have your air box lid take it off and see what happens.

Mabyee check your needle clip pos. If it rich it can sometimes make it feel like it wont reach top rpms. By the time you hit 3rd your prob already in the power band and full throttle so you blast past the initial needle setting in the higher gears. While 1st and 2nd you prob are on the needle alittle more.

Check the needle clip pos.

My 1st,2nd,3rd are very short b/c i spin like im on iceI:I

i put another pilot jet in (28) i think the stock pilot jet is 32, i put a new needle in as the old one was slightly bent, and i put my clip position at the #2 groove(same as it was before) and my air screw is at 1 1/3 turns and it still runs like dog sh*t if not worst. I just figured out that i have a 260 main, not a 240 as i previously thought. i haven't tried putting in another main jet as the only ones i have in between the 260 are a 220, 230, and a 340 and it would probably either lean it out like crazy or vise versa (richen it like crazy). Any help guys ? This is driving me nuts lol
