I am quad illiterate. I have a 97 eclipse gs 5spd that i dont need, so i posted it on craigslist trade for a quad. Well, a guy offered me a kfx, but it needs to be shimmed. What the crap does that mean? To adjust valves on a honda (civic), u need a screwdriver and feeler gauges. Is this similar? What would necessitate the valve shims? Plz, someome enlighten me...

Dont think he is. I just dont wanna get pwn3d with some stupid kawazukicat sheet box quad. I read that the kawwy, the zuki, and the arctic cat 400's are all the same thing. I dont even like those brands. I prefer honda and yamaha. I just had never heard of shimming valves...

You'll need to remove the valve cover and check the clearance between the bucket and the cam. I f it needs adjustment,, remove the cams. Between the inside of the bucket and the top of the valve is a shim. Use the initial measurement you took to determine the correct size shim you need. It's probably going to be smaller than what's in there. Order the correct size shims from your local shop and put it back together. You may want to let the shop do the job. If the cams are timed wrong, you'll bend valves.
