I think that was the year they went to the hydraulic brakes, 2003? Has anyone done the conversion? are the ball joints the same? Just swap the spindles and bolt on the new components?

The '88s are orphans. Different lower ball joint on the a-arm (pinch style like the top). You'll need the '90-present a-arms. They were only like that for a couple of years ("88, "89). Not that hard to get ahold of though.

Another option... You could send me your spindles and I could modify to make them compatible with standard Yamaha disc brake components. Looking to start another run right after Christmas. Figure on about a 2 week turn around from when I get them.

ye ai have an 88 and i had to replace the bottom arms with newer ones because they are the pinch style. the new ones are not. they bolt on top. but once you switch those out it bolts right up!

you have a way to modify the 88-2002 hubs to accept rotors and calipers?? that doesnt seem possible

awk has a set of normans spindles an seems very happy with them they definately seem to be the best option for the hydro conversion other than swaping for a newer front end like freak did

you can get 03+ brakes and will need at least 2 new bottom a-arms << shouldnt be more than $50 or so, but i've seen the 03+ brakes go for close to $300, heres what i did for way less then that, and in my opinion ....there is no other way to go than the norman420 spindles, very sweet pieces, and way safer than drilling and reaming banshee spindles.................

i also went with the norman420 spindles and they worked great. easy to put on with no problems
