Yz250 Engine in a blaster frame

there nasty when done right. i rode one a while back and it was keepin up with and beating banshees. if you just got the motor layin around id say go for it.

this is a perfect project, a stock YZ will run all day and only the most powerful/modded blaster will see the tail light, make sure you use a liquid cooled one run its electrics and you will have the baddest hybrid around

Yeah, go for it!!

A few yamaha mechanics once told me the blaster frame was adequate to take the torque developed by the YZ250 engine.. But we discussed finding the model of YZ that would fit the frame best with the least mods. Verdict was, Find an older YZ with the frame, electrics and the engine that barely runs.. sell all the rest, but keep the frame so you can cut off the engine mounts and weld em onto the blaster frame.. Then do a rebuild. Mounting the rads is tricky, but you can get away with using more smaller rads if you can get them used. it just makes it easier to find space for.

The blaster frame can handle pretty much anything lol
Ask a mechanic that has actually tried to mount a bigger motor in the frame.

Its a hard choice.... I think a modern 250cc 2stroke blaster would be awesome, make it light and set it up for a mx/trail combo.

Then again a 400 or 465 air fooler would be badass! it would be heavier ( maybe ) and longer, but the simplicity would be nice and it would be a killer trail bike.

Hell, if your going to do the work why not go with a old air cooled yz490 or even an old IT490 then you can keep the lights.

The 490 is one of the worst motors for a quad.
The vibration from it will rattle your bolts and arms off.

i have a blastr with a yz250 motor on it...ran a 400ex tricked out to a 416 and smoked him by about 3 or 4 bikelengths...id say go for it...you wont be dissapointed with the power thats for sure...lol....and my rads are located in front of my engine on each side...see profile pic

Be prepared to take twice as long and spend twice as much :o Then you have the job of the pipe. Being realistic not talking out of. Look in the mod& swap forum for more info. :D I:I
