i have the yz 490 motor in now and its ready to go i drained the oil out of it and i am wondering which oil i should use to make it perform best. some one said gear oil but i dont think that that is correct.

do you mean mix oil or tranny oil,and do you have a rebuilt engine not break-in if so dont use syntetich oil not good for break-in and if not well my oil of choice is klotz!! for pre-mix and for tranny its bel-ray gear saver!!!

I use Yamalube2R for premix and Belray Gear Saver for the tranny... both work great.. And I live by Belray Gear saver.. Its my #1 choice of tranny oils!!

i use motorex high tech 2t fully sythenic
for break in procedures i use yamalube 2R semi sythenic
for gear oil i use motul

well on the side of the yz motor it says motor oil so im wondering what to put in there i dont think it takes tranny oil

i beleive that the yz is premixed, and the case holds transmission oil. not sure though call your local yamaha dealer, i checked the yamaha site and searched yz490 and no results

yes its tranny oil (same thing as your blaster )you need 2 stroke tranny oil like bel-ray gear saver,or yamalube tranny oil for 2 stroke!!!

hey mark, happy to see you got it together! about the oil use strait 30wt motor oil, a good brand no cheap stuff! send me a pic of the motor.

I ran my 93 Kenworth w/Detroit 500 hp. 60 series for 1.2 million miles using Mobil Delvac 1300 and 10% Lucas, with no engine component failure. I have 830,000 mi. on my 01 frlr w/ a 500 Det. with the same results. I have used this oil in all of my 2 stroke machines for 15 yrs. and have never had a gear box bearing failure. Hope this helps.
