Hi all.

I have seen many choose a 30mm carb... My original plan was acutally a 38mm? Is that too big? I thought the bigger the better! ;-) So i found THE kit.. a 35mm Mikuni TMX (their best!) kit with everything:

http://www.ocperformancemotorsports.com/yamaha-blaster-carb-kit.html

It look REALLY NICE! .. please dont reply with what brand i should choose! Only what size! I dont wanna start a Mikuni / Keihin fanboy fight.. hehe..

The engine mods the carb set needs to go with:

Stock cylinder ported and polished
Head milled .035" and redesigned with bigger better chamber
V-Force 3 Reed valve
Toomey B1 Pipe kit /w airfilter etc.

I am of corse going after power and speed! (not topspeed, but pull !) ... so in my head the choice is the 35mm kit,.. the stock cylinder wont have and trouble running with this? I mean a 125cc 2-wheeler comes from factory with a 38mm!

What the up and downside of big carb and up/down when people choose 30mm smaller carb..

Thanks in advance..

Lasse

I like my 34mm keihin pj, that's what came with my bike, and the guys didn't set it up right, wrong size boot for it, and no filter working, and completely jetted wrong. I had to jet way down, but once i got it running right, the bigger carb helps so much, i'm sure it could do more once i get a better pipe, but it makes mine go out far on the top end, and it handles load a lot better, like going up hills it'll accelerate through the powerband better like a shee. I like the bigger carbs

Cool, im glad to hear you sorted your problems out.. Great to hear you have loads of power..

But does it use MUCH gasoline? I heard they are VERY thirsty, big carbs.. specially when cyl. have porting..

I choosed that kit because cables, adapters and everything is in.. I like that.. so you dont need ANYTHING when buying the kit.. simple bolt-on.. although.. yes.. it looks very nice boost bottle.. i had something similar on my scooter yeeeears back.. it isnt supposed to give bhp... but when you let go of the throttle.. it stores air and fuel for faster response when throttling up again.. nice to have it.. but yes not THAT neccesary! :)

that setup will work real good on your machine...just wanted to point out that the boost bottle crap very very often actually hurts performance and overall HP..i would def. not run one on anything.

well 35 can work good on professionaly race ported oem jugs ,but i would avoid mikuni ,get a keihin pWK instead ..and that kit is about twice what you need to spend.. the boost bottle nonsense is going to hurt power not help

I put the 30mm on mine.

For one, the air intake boot still fits up to it. My buddy just bought his 35mm and is having to do a lot of fab work to get an airbox cuz he doesn't wanna spend the additional $200 for the airbox from Project Blaster.

Two, I like going out for long rides, and since the Blaster isn't equipped with sufficient space for a spare gas can, going much larger than the 30mm would down the gas like a mofo. It does with the 30mm anyway, but I can't imagine the 35mm.

Three- when you have such a large carburetor that demands so much gas and so much air, you still have the 200cc engine that's being fed, so shooting that much into our little tiny cylinders is tough to get calibrated properly. You'll feel the power increase but the bigger you go, the less efficient the engine will become at burning all that fuel in the restricted space it has to burn.

Ultimately when it comes down to it, we have Blasters. I figured I'd spend what I need to keep it running, upgrade parts when they break, but in the end, they made Banshees and 450's for a reason and in my head, there's no point trying to make a Blaster into one of those.

Just my $.02

good post...
but its ported it is starving for more fuel...and like flotek said the pwk series the way to go...but im keeping in mind you want a bolt on ready to go kit.

Hi and thanks for replying..

Yea youre absolutly right.. either i know all the needed parts (which i dont! :) and can get them from one website.. or i buy a complete kit where EVERYTHING is included (I like that! ) Because what is the required parts?

Carb of corse...
Throttlecable
inlet manifold?
Airbox adapter?

Anything else?

Lindso:
Well if you buy a 125cc 2-wheeler it actually comes with 36 or sometimes 38mm carb!!! .. so i dont think 200cc is small for that size carb. I will agree though on reliability is important.. instead of pushing over the limit....

Flotek:
Ok, i get it! :) The boost bottle is crap! .. You say i only need to spend half the money ? But like people say when buying a big carb i need new "adapters" ? to install it to the reed and airfilter.. I really want to keep my stock airbox .. So is that possible to pair thoose things together? Or isnt there any adapters to standard box?

I just dont understand why you guys dont like Mikuni? Only Keihin seems ok in this forum .. I´ve seen a lot Mikuni i think is nice.. and the stock carb is Mikuni.

But am i better off buying all the parts seperatly??? Thumbthrottle cable, carb, adapters? .. isnt it way more expensive?

yeah you will ned an adapter ,i was referring to the high prce of the carb itself mostly ,if you want to use your stock stuff than yes

got news for ya the stock roundslide carb is scrap and comes out of the fred flintstone days compared to a PWK ,the tmx mikuni is a decent unit ,better than a tm series but most of the other carbs they offer are junk and recycled from chinese beer cans.keihins jet and carburate much better
