I bought my first atv, 89 yamaha blaster. I am absolutely in love with this bike. I am a hobby auto mechanic and thought if I can fix a car I can fix a quad. sh*t was I wrong. I need someone who can help me figure out what exactly I should be doing to it. I've cleaned the carb, done an oil change, changed the spark plug, and replaced the carb boot. But the biotch is still leaking (I know I probably need a new float pin). I don't know where to put the hoses, or how long to make them. I know I don't have the stock carb but I don't know what size it is or how much that'll affect the tuning. I'm a pretty stubborn biotch and I refuse to bring it in and pay someone else when I know I can get it done with the right help. Anyone wanna be my forum friend and help me through this?? Please :)

So the carb I have on the bike is the one I got with it (the leaking one). The one on the table I picked up off a guy that was parting out his blaster. I want to switch them but I dont know if I can bypass the piece on top of the throttle cap (not sure what that is lol) and there seems to be alot more ports on this new one.

Heres the two of them side by side. Just to give u an idea of the size difference. When I bought the bike the guy told me the carb was off a 250 honda but thats all I know.

the carb on the table is the stock yamaha blaster carb, very well built carb. The peice on top is called the TORS brick, or throttle overide system, its a pain in the butt. Good things though are since you have an 88 blaster, you can just unhook the wires and it will be disconnected. You can leave it on, wont hurt anything really. Or you can buy a tors delete kit, think its around $50 and just removes that entire thing. If you have the extra $50, buy it.

Sweet okay I'll let you know hoe I make out.

So lets say I just wanted to leave it there how do I hook it up to my existing throttle cable?

To use your TORS you will probably need the factory throttle cable.
The cable you have now probably dont have the right end.

Are you using the oil injection system on you blaster, or are you mixing yourself?

You are indeed right, after I asked that I just tried it and it doesn't have the right end, so it looks like I'm going to need a new cable. And I'm mixing my gas myself.

Best thing to do is get a Clymers Repair Manual or find the download on the forum..

If you don't have any mods the stock carb will work best. However, if you are buying a new cable, spend the little extra money and get a TORS elimination kit. Comes with a cable, new carb cap, slide stop screw, drill and tap. You will thank yourself every time you work on the carb.

Yeah its def worth it, makes it getting carb in and out 1000x easier. Easier to tune too since the air fuel is on the side of carb.
