this sucks, today while i was at work, my buddy and his kids were out workin in the garage (where i got my wheeler) which usually isn't that big of a deal to me, kids play on it woopty doo, they can't kick it over cuz there no kicker. but today the kids decided to push it round so my buddy grabbed the clutch and went to step her down in first so that they couldn't push it, and proceeded to have the shifter break right off the shaft, splines and all...... god it sucks....... well i guess this gives me to fix it right, cuz the guy i got the wheeler off of decided to weld the shifter on instead of doin it right the first time..... but on a good note, i finally got accepted to a new apartment with a garage right up next to the river that me and fed ride on over winter, i'm happy bout that, now just another day of moving everything there and getting organized, gotta love that, lol

That sucks man, sounds to me like the kids were probably standing on the shift lever for it to snap like that, or your buddy put some serious force into it.

yeah, i'm not really that upset bout it, i am a lil bit, but not that much cuz i already knew it was loose, but i beat on that shifter and him just clicking it into first confuses me. from what i can see it had already broke on one side of the drift pin that they had in it and today the other side clean broke off. just sucks now that i'm goin to have to get the gaskets and parts for that. but like i said, now i can do it the right way. and maybe while i'm at it i'll get some of the other odds and ends taken care of. just sucks that i'm not goin to be able to ride till i can get it fixed......

In all honesty, since iyour doing it right... ( Nbot sure if you have to split the cases to replace that shaft or not, if you do, get a full gasket set, an have the cylinder honed an put a fresh piston an rings in since it may have to be apart anyways, an rubber busing all the mounts, an find a kx250 or kxf250 pipe to ditch the cut an welded stockrr

the shift shaft can be replaced by just removing the clutch cover, in fact while checking to see if mine sons motor shifted correctly during his rebuild, i actually had to hold in on it while doing so, seems the clutch cover actually holds it in place,
so just remove the clutch cover and it should just slide out that side, id definately replace the shifter side seal while your at it, but you may get away with re-using the clutch cover gasket
and do make sure the broken end of the shaft is clean and cut straight, grind or cut off all welds, and grease that new one on the way in

yeah it looks like i'm goin to have to split the case to get at it, cuz when i did the clutch i didn't see anything really that would go to the shifter, but then again i wasn't really looking for it, lol. i'll have to see when i get the motor out and start working on it when money permits
