my brother bought a yz 80 a few months back and it always runs great. but every time he washes it it wont start, then we change the spark plug and it runs fine. but he goes through lots of water on trails and stuff and it never happens then. it only happens when he washes it. what is going on????

it get in the airbox and sits there and when u start it up it sucks it in when he washes it pull the drain under the airbox and my old kawisaki would do the same thing only when i would wash it

My blaster used to do this but it was because I didnt have overflow hoses on the carb outlets, I only had the one on the bowl. And if I washed it and spray water near those holes, it wouldnt start afterwards, but all I did was get the air gun out and give it a little burst of air into one of those outlets (gas would shoot out the other side, lol) that would clear it out and it did the trick

there is no overflow hose on the bowl and there are a bunch of holes with no hoses. im not sure if there are suposed to be that way but there should definitally be one for the bowl. im thinkin thats the problem

a wire is grounding, but its probably one thats harder for water to normaly get at then when you wash it, you get it because you spray alot of water everywhere.

I have a polaris 400 scrambler that does the same thing everytime i wash it. Water gets into the air filter/carb and then it wont start. you can seal the rubber air boot to air filter chamber/plastic with silicone etc to help on that seal other wise just be careful when you get towards the back of machine when you spray. If it is getting into air filter you can stuff the air filter area box with rags to absorb the water before you wash. To double check wash front 1/3 try to start....wash 2/3 try to start then wash back third. when it doesn't start it should pinpoint a general area where to look whether it be electronics, air filter ,cdi,.stator etc. water almost has to be getting into motor that why when you change plug it start. when water gets in with gas it's like running 40 octane or less it wouldn't start.
