wel new to this forum and looking for some help, im thinking about putting a vfr 750 engine in a blaster frame.would it be hard fitted? As i already have the bike but it was meant to be for a buggy project untill i saw a cheap blaster frame for sale. so if anyone can tell me if it would fit or not it would be great or give me other engines that would be good for a blaster. all help would be greatly appriaciated. thanks

The vfr750 is the interceptor engine right? V4 setup?

If so, it would probably be a very difficult fit in a blaster frame. The reason is, yamaha designed the blaster frame to fit bascially a 2 stroke dirtbike engine in. The rear end of the blaster engine is quite short with the carburetor going into the back of the cylinder and it having a articularly small transmission.

I believe you'd have trouble fitting the rear cylinder inside the frame.

What's the point in putting a big 4 cyl engine into a blaster?
The whole point of a blaster is how light it is.
Sell that engine and get a piped, ported, stroked standard blaster motor.

what kind of mods.? i just looked at an xj550 build today on this and it didnt seem too bad.

mods like cutting the frame in half and fabricating a complete new center section. you can make anything fit. i doubt you will like riding it unless you upgrade all suspension components to handle the added weight. then it will still be heavy and internally geared to tall. not a good trail machine. i know some guys that have an R1 in a zilla, an r6 in a banshee, a gsxr 750 in a raptor, and rc51 in a raptor and a cbr600 in a 400ex. all they do is pro hillclimbs. they ride them some, but they also have alot of engineering in them and custom suspension parts. it would take several thousand dollars to build one to be decent to just ride. $0.02

well the point is to build something totally different and then sell it on again. because were im from (Ireland) people use their quads on the road and modded 200cc blasters arnt worth much but people would pay twice the money on something that will go over 100mph. im a good welder and have good experience. so ill probaly still go ahead with a bike engined blaster once im finished my 750 buggy build.

A built YZ250 powered Blaster would sell quick. A 100mph road illegal blaster aint worth it when it cant be driven off road at all. After a few rides the frame wont stick vibrations.

Best choice would be keep watching Donedeal for a blown bike. Noone will buy a blown bike so it'll go cheap.
Look for Tri-Z (Seen a mint one go for 350 last month, "No Powerband". Reeds were probably gone. A €10 fix)
Or any cheap 2 stroke motorbike.
CR250, 125, 80
YZ250, 125
KX250, 125.
You could get a decent motor off ebay for less than 3 or 400 to your door.

4 stroke? No. I:I
2 strokes are cheaper, lighter, easier to work with and faster.
Best bang for the buck.

I'd ring the fella in Kerry and see if he could meet half way. 40hp standard compared to the Blasters 16 is worth it Especially at that price.

If your looking to resell, I don't think you will do well. It may cost alot more to build then you could sell it for. For safety , I would never buy and ride a quad that was modified that much by a non professional shop . To many things can go wrong if not done a 100% correct.

youd almost be better off using some of the vfr frame section to start and then modifying both the blaster and that frame to mesh together than either make new bars that keep the same mounting points. there will be alot of work but the vfr's are fun motors that was my first bike.

yea i would only iv just started to take apart the vfr today and im going to use in a buggy instead. but then il do a blaster build when im finished with someting wike a kx 250 or a cbr 400 rr..:)

I believe you'll actually be better off in the long run with the new plan.

I'm all for hybrid this and that's but fitting an interceptor engine in a blaster frame would be a difficult enterprise considering the space inside a blaster frame. By the time you were all done with the blaster frame, it wouldn't be a blaster frame at all....

I'd like to see a CBR400 engine (size wise) set into a blaster frame.... might fit as its rather compact.
