Hey guys. New to the blaster, it was just given to me with seized engine. 1988 year. I am in the process of getting it loose and was wondering if you could help me with a good place to apply pressure to help the engine start to turn. I am leary of using the kick start lever with too much force for fear of breaking it. Looking to rebuild the top end once I get it moving. thanks for help, the site has a ton of useful info.

why would you attempt that? just open it up and rebuild it ( if its seized its gonna need atleast a topend and probably crank and bearings maybe more ) depending on severity you may be better off just buying a motor off ebay, here, or somewhere...

if you cant remove the piston because its stuck in the cylinder soak it in kerosene that should help free it up a bit...

yeah, that was my thought. I wanted to at least get it to move so I wouldnt have to beat the top end to get it off. Plan is to rebuild at least the top end. Any thoughts on how to get it to move??

yeah as i said soak it in kerosene, should free it up enough to use the kicker...if it doesn't i wouldn't bother any other way.

probly not lookin at a bottom,, if its locked up, its probly ring in cylinder, probly clean the bottom end out and check for crank tolerances, and hope it shifts nice, i got mine loose "years ago" but put some penetrating oil in the cylinder and see if ya cant work it loose probly pull the head and mabey give it a few light bops while "sorts trying" to turn it over..... mine locked up tighter than sh*t skidded me from 55 to nothing in a hurry and i took it home and got her loose and only had to go .20 over

thanks. I figured I'd end up boring several sizes. Started the resurrection last night. Plan on pulling the top end tonight. We'll see.

When i bought my blaster it came with a spare lower end with a seized crank before he gave it to me he coated it with some silver looking greasy substance he said it releases ceased engines.. Well last night i actually got the crank to turn... the bearing is shot in the crank tho. id need a whole new crank replacement.. I will find the name of the substance within the hour im dropping by for a visit :P

thanks jdub86. That would be awesome. I realize what the best way to do it would be but I am trying to get this running without dumping alot of $ into it. If it turns out to be worth it, wont mind upgrading later.

I forgot to ask him but i will be back i gotta pickup another blaster off him.. :) 2nd one im actually going to use most of it for parts..

As for that seized crank... i think you will most likely have no choice but to replace the crank and piston ..... the crank i un-ceased last night turned but not well the bearing is done in the crank..

Crank-shaft 150$ - Ebay (Hot rodz i think)
Piston kit - 70$ - Ebay - Wiseco Brand

only problem is taking the crank case appart and putting in the new crank shaft is no easy task for a beginner ive been researching it but here are a few helpfull videos..

Blaster Engine Rebuild (Time Lapsed)

Motorcycle Crank Case Rebuild... Not a blaster but it will give you some insight to how to do this...

Hope this helps!

jdub, thanks again. I dont know if the crank is seized. I think it's only (hopefully) the top end. It was put away running, but sat for a long time. I tried to move the kick start but it was no go. I have kerosene in the head now to help loosen it up so I can pull the top end off. I really hope that is all it needs. I'll know more tonight.

will do jdub. Pittboss, where are you in case it comes to that? I may be in the market for jug/piston setup.

Well, started the tear down tonight. Took the top end off. The lower end couldnt have been seized tighter if it was one piece. Damn. Gotta take a step back and decide if it is worth it to continue. I guess I'll start looking into an engine.

find out what is ceased if its the crank you can get one on ebay for 150$ assembled and ready to install

dont waste good money on paying a shop 2 put in a used crank. go new and new crank bearings. then u know what u have
