2002 Blaster just quit on my son during a ride. He said it just died. I was able to start it, but it made a sound like loose bolts or clacking? and the quad had no power. Ended up pushing a tow rope home.

Piston slid in cylinder smoothly. Pulled the cylinder and everything looks fine. Rings intact, no scoring or marking on piston or cylinder.

I'm quickly pushing my limit with working on the bike. Any suggestions on what to look for,or should I just take it to an expert.

Thanks

I had this exact same problem it is the crank bearings. What you will have to do is take out the motor, split the case, buy new bearings, take the crank to a machinist and have him press out the pin and reinstall the new bearings. I did not do this when I did mine because I dropped in a hot rods 56 mill crank but I have done this before and another bike.

no piston skirt broken off ?
any up and down play on the connecting rod ?
have you pulled the clutch and stator covers to look for fubar in there ? flywheel/clutch loose/broken
once in there check for up/down side to side movement of the crank.

Not exactly sure what the piston skirt is, but the piston looks intact.
I can move the connecting rod up and down. Not Normal? no side to side play
Have not pulled stator cover off yet. I need to get a tool to pull rotor and check stator

yep, while holding the crank from rotating, there should be no up and down play on the lower rod bearing.
if there is, the lower rod bearing failed, and you'll need it rebuilt, or another new/used one.
if you had to ask "seek a expert" you can give the procedure a look in the manual, found in "general support" section, then make the decision

this is a new piston with both skirts intact.....

it's usually the exhaust side that breaks

Repairing/Replacing crankshaft is not a job for me. What is the typical cost a shop would charge me?
