Hello, new to the forum.
I just got a 2003 blaster a few weeks back and just picking away at maintenance and upgrades .
Have not even riden it out on the track or trails.

I went to change the crank oil and noticed when fitting my socket on the drain bolt there was no skuffing or wrench marks on the bolt.

Drained the oil and let it flow over my finger just to check for debris. All good, oil is very dirty and has a circuit board kinda smell to it.

Looking at my oil drain container there was over 750ml of oil in there.

Plan is to pour 650ml in, however I lost my funnel. I rigged a funnel out of some plastic and as I was filling it my son bumpes into me and i spilled some oil outside the fill port and for several seconds didnt know.

This happened twice , now I decided to put about 750 ml from the bottle in to compensate.

I spilt over 50ml I assume.

See sight glass and old oil pics and please advise. Can I leave it? Thanks

Fail safe way to see if there is too much oil in there is to drain it out into a clean container and measure it.

The sight window lies anyway.

Yes I may do that, I guess im wondering if its necessary. Considering I pulled 750 from it anyway.
I know the volume is 650 ml but my manual says 750 capacity. I couldnt harm anything from being a little over? I used Honda HP trans oil.

I'm reading that that has "Special anti-friction additives allow smoother shifting, while minimizing drag and power loss. Anti-shear additives increase clutch life, reducing clutch slippage."

I do not think you want to use that for the anti friction additives. This is a wet clutch so any kind of friction modifiers are a big no. You need to have the friction. Blaaster will be able to correct me if I'm wrong.

If you have not started the engine and used the clutch, you may get away with a drain and flush.

If you have opened the clutch plates to allow the oil to enter into contact with the clutch fibre material, the plates may need replacement.

Some popular trans oils would be
-Automatic trans fluid TYPE F
-Klotz Super techniplate
-Yamalube 4 10w30 or 10w40
-Lucas motor oil 10w30 for motorcycles
-Belray gearsaver 80

Got all that from this thread on here:
Gearbox Oil

On re reading the specs on the oil, it seems that it is designed for clutches, but the thought of running a friction modified oil in a wet clutch scares me.

Need to do some more research, things may have changed.

I was told to run this on my cr125 when I had it.
Its motorcycle atv oil.

All I can find is this, I must admit that I am not committing my full attention to the matter, so am not doing a full blown search.

It may be fine to use, if so, I may have led you up the garden path, if so I apologise.

At first thoughts I doubted the oil as suitable. Better safe than sorry.

It seems like they add stuff to it to make it slip, and stuff to stop it slipping, is it just marketing jargon?

I still am not too keen on using it.

you'll be just fine with the honda hp.
i used to run the it for years before switching to my driveline clutch, which recommends mobli1 full synth.
i never had a clutch slip, or ever fail running the honda hp.

Thanks for clearing that up.

Specifications can be confusing.

i never read the specs, i just know thats what cernics suzuki recommended and sold me for my blaster since back in the mid 90's, i used it exclusively and succesfully until switching to the mobile1

Im thinking so aswell, it is made for wet clutch application.
I think there wording on the bottle may mislwad people

i would measure that into an empty bottle of actual oil,i have seen containers like that lie, also if it did have 750ml it may have been squirting a fraction out of the breather tube under headlight area?

No was running fine, no oil from anywhere besides the head pipe, i have a small leak from a gasket that needs replacing.I called my local yamaha dealer and they told me from the factory the blaster is shipped with 750ml of oil. They recommend 650 for the oil change to help dummy proof it and because they assume some amount of oil with remain in the tranny after drain. Dont shoot the messenger.

Anyway I drained a little bit of oil and were good to go. Better safe then sorry I suppose.
