Trail p&p Vs. Mx p&p

hey natdog why you gots no rear brake?
and i think that mx is a more aggressive port as opposed to the trail being more for reliability and mx is for all out low to mid power

Both are low to mid ports, the MX is a bit more empasized towards the midrange and makes a little more peak power at a slightly higher rpm, but gives up a little to the trail port right off idle. Some builders offer an "outdoors" MX port that is more of a mid to top port layout, I would relate this to what I call my dune port (with mild changes to the exhaust port shape)

I would agree with wildcard but basicly you would have to see and know what the builder you plan to use considers as a mx or trail or drag port
unfortunatly for the patron every one seems to have a different idea of what name should justify the port layout ,so theres no universal reference point although it is generally considered a trai lport should obviously focus on low- midrange for response broad power for hill climbs technical stuff buzzing around the woods ..and a mx port should come on strong around say 5-6 ,000rpms to come out of the corners and and still have decent lowend torque for holeshots and short bursts, its kinda crazy some builders drag ports ive seen look like my trail porting ,this is where a customer/ builder realtionship is important so it performs correctly for the application

^^Well said FloTek^^ Every builder classifies porting a little different than an other. This is why when you talk to a builder about your build they should be asking you questions about your riding style. I have had conversations up to an hour long trying to get the port to fit their needs the best before any cutting was ever done on the cylinder.
