torque wrench

i dont mess around with a torque wrench. i only buy snap on or mac ones cause they have life time warranty and they will check them and make sure the wrench is working correctly

torque specs are good, but don't let them rule out judgement and common sense. seen bad things happen with people following torque specs to the book :)

Torque settings are a must.

Anyone who thinks the can get away without using a tension wrench is playing with fire.

Overtightening a fastener can cause it to break, stretch or tear out threads.

Under tightening can cause seals to leak, components to warp and fastenings to loosen and back out.

I have made thousands of dollars fixing stuff ups caused by backyarders thinking that they are better than a tension wrench.

yeah I totally agree, I wasn't saying don't use one at all, just I've also seen many people follow torque specs to literally, and strip fasteners on not just quads, but cars and all sorts. even truer on older stuff. rocker covers seem to be main culprit I've witnessed.

Rocker covers are very prone to getting the threads stripped out as it is very hard to remove the oil from the threads

Torque settings are for dry fasteners, any lubrication on the thread will cause fooling of the wrench and overtightening

yeah exactly, as I said common sense needs to play a part as well :) I need to take mine to be calibrated before I rebuild this spare engine.
