top end rebuild

I'm.going to rebuild my top end on my blaster I got a new jug and piston and gaskets I know I need to.oil the piston a bit when it goes in what else do.I need to know do u guys use rtv in the lower gasket and what is the bolt tightening sequences help and tips would be appreciated thanks guys

You need to use plenty of oil on the piston, especially working it into the rings.

It is a good idea to fully coat the complete bore with oil.

I like to put a little dribble on the rod/crank bearing and some in the holes that feed the crankshaft main bearings.

No RTV needed on the base gasket.

Head nuts 20ft lb, diagonally and incrementally ( little bit at a time).

Base nuts 18ft lb, and as above.

You will need a crows foot wrench for the base nuts, or make your own.

Wouldn't hurt to wash the cyl. Especially if it is a fresh bore or a brand new aftermarket cyl.
Use whatever 2s oil you will be running for lube.

Ok here's my first problem the new cylinder didn't come with studs and the old ones are in the old cylinder can I get them out with a jam nut ?

you may be able to get them out double nutted,

or with a stud remover....

but really, new studs is the way to go, no telling if those old ones have ever been over tightened and stretched.

so.... chamfer the ports.

patience and a dremel tool with some assorted stones

Figured that we talking just smoothing the sharp edges or like a big chamfer?

could I use a hand file I don't have a Dremel

You might be able to use a hand file but it could be tricky. Whatever you end up using ,take your time dont rush. Last thing you want to do is have the dremel run away and score up the cylinder. Another tip would beto trim your base gasket if it needs to be and match to transfer ports. Also make sure you install the circlups corectly

So I just put the head on and torque it down, finished everything else started it up and ran it I shut it off and realized the heads on backwards, I know I'm f*ckin stupid for not noticing, should I change it right away or is it ok ?

It will run just the same, but cooling will be affected.

It would pay to put it on the correct way.

It will be ok to do the heat cycles while you are waiting for the new gasket to arrive.

But do not ride is that way.
