Top End Rebuild

Hey guys, I have a locked up blaster here and I need some direction. I've been spraying penetrating fluid in the head and letting it sit for a few days now, no luck getting the piston to move. I'm going to rebuild the top end on it, how should I go about doing this? Also, whats a safe way to free the piston up? any tips, tricks or hints about the entire process would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

First off welcome to the forum. As for getting the piston loose take the head off and put some oil down ther cylinder and let it soak and just keep trying to work it free.

As for a topend rebuild you will need a new piston kit, should include piston, rings, wristpin, wristpin bearing, c-clips and a topend gasket kit. You will need the next size up piston from what you are currently running. Going to have to take your new piston kit and jug to a good machinist and have them give your jug a fresh bore and hone to match your new piston.

Hope this helps you out..............

I'll get the head off tonight probably. The motor is stock, so it's the factory bore. Should I pull up on the actual cylinder to try to dislodge the piston? or maybe hit the top with a hammer and wood block? It's been soaking in oil and I just don't see it comming free with just that.

I am not sure you wanna beat on the piston. Maybe try a rubber mallet. You dont want to break the piston and have pieces falling down in the crank.

If it is factory bore that is 66mm so you will want to go to 66.25mm. It will be .10 over.
Does the Blaster still have the oil injection?

You could try pulling off the cylinder. The crank might be siezed or jambed up.

What basically happened with it was it just shut off when I was riding it. I tried kicking it over a few times, it kicked about 5 or 6 times probably, and then just locked up. Never really experienced that before.

Have you pulled the head yet? Just curious what the piston/cylinder look like. I thought I locked my blasty up once, did the same thing you described, just stopped while running, I kicked 2 or 3 times then it locked. I could put all my weight on the kicker and it wouldn't budge. Turns out, my stator fell apart and locked up the flywheel. Might be worth pulling the stator cover off and taking a peek inside.

I thought i had seized the piston or crankshaft when mine locked up, but it was the clutch....................

Pulled the head, got the cylinder off. It looks like part of the skirt broke, theres some metal fragments on top of the crank. I really hope It didnt make its way down in further, I'm going to suck out what I can with a vacuum cleaner.

Dam that sucks bro.
Make sure you look down in the cranks case for debris and make sure there is nothing down there to mess up the crank.

What kind of piston where you running?

It was stock. What should I do about it possibly being everywhere throughout the motor? How can I get that out, or make sure theres none in there, I'd really hate to rip into the transmission

Got out as much of the piston fragments as I could, took the piston off the rod, crank won't spin freely at all, at first it bearly spun at all until I sat there and tried to spin the crank by hand, which probably wasn't a good idea. I found alot more pieces as I forced the crank to spin little by little. Anybody wanna sell a bottom end?

as long as the cases are not cracked u can rebuild the bottom end.......u dont have to worry about broken peices getting in the tranny.......that is sealed off from the crankcase and nothing can get in there.......just turn the motor over , used compreesed air and blow out the botttom end as good as possible....if it spins freely..u should be good to go

would those little particles be able to get into the main crank bearing? Its just stuck, then it frees up, then stuck, it just doesn't feel good.

once you have the piston out then have it bored then you"ll know what size piston you need, if you buy the piston first and they have to bore it over .20 you just wasted your money . bore first then get piston. and if its a wisco no need to hone they put the clearance on the piston

I already did buy the piston. I bought a .020 over wiseco. The cylinder looks fine, thers really no scoring or marks in it, it should be fine. I'm much more worried about the crank, the crank is turning over fine now, but I bought a new crank for it anyway, its marred up pretty good and theres no way its going to be alright, that whole skirt broke up and fell down in.
