This has been bothering me for a couple weeks, so i went riding for around 6 hours a couple weekend ago and on the way back to the house the revs shot up real high so i killed it then started it up and they shot up again hit the kill switch and nothing, turned the key off and still ran so i pushed the throttle in and it died down. got to the garage and it wouldnt start, next day it fired up on the first kick and ran fine for the 5 minutes i drove it around, then i shut it off but then yesterday like a week after this a started it and the revs started to get high but then i shut it off in fear. There are no leaks, and its jetted a bit rich. anybody know what i could be? so i can fix it before i go riding again.

if zero confirmed airleaks, i'd look at the carb slide, throttle cable, then floats/valve
sumthin hangin open, or runnin outta fuel will get it to rev ???
just a few other options if it's airtight

Yeah , and a good one too , leak test leak test and leak test , it's obviously having to warm up before the leak occurs , retorque the head bolts , check the jug bolts check the intake manifold bolts and even check the rubber seal at the throttle cable ( if the tors is deleted ) and make sure the carb cap is tight . If none of that helps , start to suspect your crank seal

No leaks held for 15 before and after this happens also its a pwk 35 carb and I did retorque the head bolts and front cylinder bolts after every hour because this ride was on new gaskets

Float is also set at the right height and new throttle cable and it's well lubed btw didn't know if this would cause it but the choke pull is broken between the threads but if you pull on it or tip the carb it won't come out

i'd say your onto sumthin there !!!!!

What do you mean by " runnin outta fuel will get it to rev" because it was getting down there, i drained the tank after this and there was alittle less than a gallon and it wasnt on reserve when this happend

i was talkin about the carb bowl running out of fuel, try this, shut off the petcock, and let it run till it runs out of fuel, near the last few drops it will rev slightly as the air fuel mixture leans out, if thats similar to what it's doing check the floats, and their function, i had one once that had a groove wore into the post that supports the floats, and they would hang up on thet, i filed it off and they were good

and i'd replace that $45 choke piece, unless you can bore/hone/piston for cheaper than that

could it just be too rich because it was rich at 50 degree weather and now its like 75-80 and i never rejeted

possible plug fouling, get it rejetted, but it musta been really rich for the cold, i'm still runnin my 162 cool weather jet, from my usual 155 summer jet, and will do so as long as the mountain is hittin in the 40's still in the evenings
saturday we rode in high 60's to low 50's
