So i have a 1997 recon just the frame sitting in my backyard that has a tore up rear end and in a box i have a knocking 2002 motor that needs a crank, stator, idk what else ive never cranked it bought a 2002 as a parts bike ended up putting the 97 engine in the 02 frame and selling it.

I was thinking of putting a blaster motor in my 97 frame putting a 12 tooth front sprocket and custom fabbing a 50 or bigger rear sprocket. do yall think i would be able to pull a 28 inch tire with the blaster motor geared so low with sprockets? at 12 and 50 it would be like stock gearing when i have 28s on it. wanting it as a super light mud bike that i could litterally pick up off the ground. i was also thinking about custom fabbing it to be 4x4 which i know would put more strain on the clutch but idk itd be awesome.

I know i could fab it all up my only concerm would be would this burn up the clutch in the blaster motor even with low geared sprockets?

You seem to have done your sums. IF you run a 12/50 setup with 28's at the back you will achieve 58mph @ 8500rpm, compared to stock 59mph @ 8500rpm with a 13/40 setup with stock 21" tires.

So yes the gearing will be similar to stock, but dont forget, the weight of those tires is a huge factor to consider, gear ratios or not, that little motor still has to turn them.

You will be effectively increasing your unsprung weight and thats going to strain the blaster motor and like you mentioned the clutch is the item that will take a beating.

i actually did use the calc made by luni, before that i was using top speed calcs but his gearing calculator is very handy. im thinking of 28 inch mudlites or another light tire maybe 27 mudbugs. do yall think if i put a heavy duty spring kit i was thinking about adding a couple extra washers too to make it tighter do yall think those mods would make it take the abuse and not slip and die? would it pull 26s maybe?
i have an extra motor with a locked rod so i was thinking of rebuilding it and putting it on the recon since the 02 recon motor is so messed up.

im definately not new to atvs and i know all about unsprung weight, ive broke some axles on utility quads cause of big tires, so yeah i know they can mess up the drivetrain, never really been worried about the engine though, mostly just gearing and the drivetrains.

yes its shaft drive, the rear end in mine is screwed anyways im probably gonna convert it to independent rear suspension and get rid of the swingarm anyways, thats not my problem im good at custom fab the clutch is my main problem. im sure it would pull 26s ok with a hd clutch kit but id like 28s lol.
