smoke

I recently bought a 2005 blaster. It was running bad at low rpm and i found that the previous owner was adjusting the idle with the air screw :o It was only at 3/4 turn out, so it was too rich and the plug was wet black. I turned it to 1-1/2 and now it run better. However, it still smokes a lot when cold, like for the first 5 minutes of riding. I checked the oil ratio (I still have the injection pump on) and it was at 48:1 (I filled gaz and oil tank and ride it, then I had to add 10L of gaz and 210mL of oil to have both tank full again).

Is the smoke could be due to residual swill from running too rich for a long time?
Does the oil pump could be adjusted, since 48:1 seems too high for me?

Isn't supposed to smoke more at 32:1 than at 48:1? More oil in gas...
Btw, it does not smell bad, so I don't think its tranny oil going into the cylinder.

I just wouldn't trust that injection pump is working consistently. It might just be that it's cold. I know if I forget to turn the gas off on mine, and let it sit a day or 2 it smokes quite a but til it's warmed up.

First off it will smoke more when cold no matter what. Do you have any modifications done to it? If not (or if only minor mods) the injector will be fine. Don't think I've seen anyone that has actually had a pump/gear failure. Mostly just talk. Most failures are from air leaks, improper jetting, lack of maintenance, and not priming pump properly after flipping over. Most go to pre-mix to be able to control the ratio better, or use better oil, or different carb with no oil port. I run the Blaster and Banshee @ 28:1, "cause I love the smell of bean oil I:I One member here runs 24:1.

Also, Welcome to Blaster Forum I:I I:I I:I

I suggest getting a Clymers repair manual, lots of good general info, and lots of Blaster specific info. :D

I run bean oil at a ratio of 25:1, I had to increase the size of the main jet to compensate for the less fuel in the mix. More oil = less fuel.

After warm up the motor produces no more smoke than at 32:1
