I am new to riding, but can anyone tell me what they call shifting on the Blaster with no clutch? You can shift with just your foot and not your hand. also, is this just exclusive on Blasters or on all Yamahas?

That would be called, "asking for trouble". You should use the clutch when shifting gears to prevent damage to your transmission

All you do is accelerate to about 2-3K rpm (less than mid range), put a little pressure on your shifter (pull up) and let off the gas. It should shift fine. You will mess something up if you do it at high RPM

Blasters (And nearly every Bike/Quad for that matter) have a constant mesh transmission. If your just riding around, you can up-shift it with no clutch without damaging it. The clutch needs to be used for downshifting however (You will see that it is harder to downshift with no clutch than upshifting is).

I know people (and bike mechanics) that pretty much never use the clutch on their bikes other than starting or stopping, if they are just riding around. If you start cranking on it trying to go fast, use the clutch.

I personally use the clutch most of the time inless I am just puting down a trail and need to upshift or something. I use the clutch 90% of the time. And ALWAYS for downshifts, or a shift at high RPM's.

Thanks a lot for all the responses. again, I am sort of new at this so the more information the better. I do make a conscious effort to use the clutch but sometimes its difficult. Thanks again.

I don't use mine to down shift either, I only use it to start and stop and RACE!

i set my beer between my legs, use the clutch to take off then put my beer back in my hand and continue to cruise, and i repeat to stop! lol, if it makes any since

lol sound like you'd fit in just fine around here. i once saw a guy roll a kids go card going around a turn.... not because he was going to fast but because he had a full size cooler strapped to the top of the cage full of ice and beer lol

he chased all the cans of beer that were rolling away before even flipping the go cart back on its wheels =))

im just not tallented enough yet lol i have enough trouble using both hands:">

Yeah, i think its power shifting thats what its called. i highly wouldnt reccomend it. its a stupid idea, if you dont want to use the clutch then why did you buy a blaster?

If power/speed shifting was a good idea there would be no such thing as over-ride transmissions.
ALWAYS use the clutch on downshifts. Downshifting w/o the clutch is the hardest thing you can do to a tranny.
Constant mesh or not there is still engagement dogs that can sheer and shift forks that can bend.
Like stated earlier letting off the throttle and not running it out too high is the best wrong way to shift without the clutch.

I think speed shifting is shifting without the clutch but power shifting is shifting without letting of the throttle

dRAG MACHINES USE AIR SHIFTERS,ELECTRONIC BUTTON ON THE HANDLEBARS,THE ENGINE GETS CUT JUST BEFORE ACTIVATION ALOWING FOR CLUTCH FREE OPERATION.Speed shifting,But that is strictly upshifting, and the use a lockup clutch that does not slip at all.
I myself don't use a clutch all that much, only for downshifting. And when winding it out high rpm.
Good way to blow up a tranny if not done propper.
On my streetbike cruising i rarely use a clutch at all, thousands of miles no issues.your call tho as it will damage things.I belive a streetbike is mor forgiving but offroad machines, use the clutch, save the money in teardowns.
Buddy o mine put a 600 hp big block in his 67 GTO.was doing a burnout and obliterated his 4 speed hitting 2nd gear at 5k rpm.wasn't pretty.you be the judge lol
