Ok, so I'll start with I'm new here, and this is my first post. I have an issue with another blaster I just got. I know nothing about the quad besides who ever had it last had it set up for racing and I need to put it back together, it was a junkyard gem. But it's in good enough shape that it's worth putting some time into. I got it and the bottom end was locked up. I took it apart and found a screw holding up the flywheel at the stator. So put the top end on to do a compression test and spark and check the gears everything was good until I shifted. It's acting like it goes in gear but the shifter doesn't go back to the center position like it should. Say you shift to first it goes down then stays down, if you go to second it stays up. If anybody can point me in the right direction with what's going on that would be great! Thank you, ryan

Could either be a bad spring on the shift shaft (pawl return) ,loose shift drum screw, or lots of times because of the way the trans is you have to have the shaft turning in order to shift.

Ok thanks guys! I really appreciate it. I just have to rip it back apart. I tried with my other blaster with it not til inning and it doesn't do it, so I'll check out the parts you mentioned. Thanks again.

You can pull shaft ou and roll it on piece of glass (or kitchen table :D) to check for straight, check for burrs. If the pawl (double hook piece) is wobbly might be problem. If everything under clutch cover is OK, then you have to split cases and look for worn/bent shift forks, maybe bad gear:o

BTW, welcome to the dirt pile I:I :D

Ok, thank you all for the advice and tips. Here is my report, I didnt take the shift shaft out the whole way I did look at it and it seemed ok. But what I did find is the screw that holds the star in had backed out and the star wasn't working properly. When you go to shift instead of it spinning it would tilt and the guider piece was behind it instead of in the groves like it should have been. so I'm pretty sure that was the issue. BUT I got rammy getting the outer clutch basket nut off the shaft and I busted a bunch of fins off, so I need a new inner and outer clutch basket. If anyone has a spare for a reasonable price please let me know. Again thank you all for the help I:I
