I have faint scratches runnning around my cylinder wall, they are not up and down like I am used to. You can not feel them with your finger but you can with your finger nail. What are they? how do I fix them? Please tell me I don't need another cylinder. And also How do I know what piston size to order?

Thanks for any help ya'll can give me

Are they criss crossed like in an x pattern? If so thats the hone but usually shouldn't be that rough. Or are they horizontal circles? this would be most likely if they bored, but didn't hone it. Either way if its a fingernail deep you probably won't need a new cylinder. Mine has a pretty deep gouge where the wrist pin scraped, and I have been running forever just fine. The only real thing is a slight power loss hardly noticeable.

you will need to have it bored, your piston size depends on how much they have to hone/bore it, like i have a cylinder still on its stock bore, one .010 over, so if i was to order a piston kit i would go with
.010 over, depending on how many times its been bored? is if you need a new cylinder, and even thne you can have a new sleeve pushed in

If they are light you can also hone it by hand with a fine grit paper or a drill tool. I'm not really sure what grit to use the stones in a tool I have are 400, so probably that.

Man this site rocks!
You guy's have been very helpfull and replied so fast. I posted the same q on 2 ther forums and still no replies.

OK I like the whole hone it your self idea because of cost. How do you do it and not screw up your cylinder?
How do I then measure the cylinder to know what size piston to order?

Thanks

It is actually really easy to do. Here is bacically how
however I would not do it anywhere near that fast! You just lube the cylinder up on a real slow drill speed go up and down and do not stop in the middle, keep it moving until you take it out. You can buy these 3 stone hones at sears or similar. You do it just enough until you see the criss pattern. I would also take a file and debur your ports just to be sure. With honing you really dont go bigger in piston size, this is just for removing small scratches. I would measure to see where the bore is at though. you need a type of caliper tool.
