running weak and knocking...

my 96 blaster is running really weak, it feels like it doesn't want to hit the powerband and it smoking more than normal... it has a weird noise like its knocking... please help!!!

take your plug out do a plug chop tell us what it looks like, also whats your comp?

how do i check compression or is it something a dealer would have to do...?

No they make Gauges to Test you own compression.Advance auto parts sells them for like 50$.not to expensive.

maybe worn out rings and piston. its called piston slap and it is really audible just off idle at a low rpm. if this is the case you had better repair it before the piston skirt breaks off and wedges IN bottom end. may need hone and new rings may need over bore and next piston size.
