Just back from our first race meeting today. After finishing 3rd in the first race we started to go backwards. After the first corner in the second race we had no power, the bike was running and would take off put then die. I changed the plug and off she went. It ran for three laps and the same problem again. Last race was no better after putting in another new plug the bike would run but not take off.

Help needed. Someone mentioned CDI breaking down but open to ideas please.

I started to mess around with the carb and think I have it sorted out now. Can't tell for sure until I get it on the track and give it a blast. The mixture screw was two turns from closed and I just brought it back to 1 and a half and she is running nice now.

It's a pitty there is no way to lock these in position and safe all the hassle.

Went racing last weekend with the kid and something funny started to happen. When you give the bike full trottle it nose drives at the front as if it's going to cut out. I drove it myself and if you give it trottle half way and then ease the rest of it it's fine. Could the timing be out on this bike and if so is there a thread on how to fix this or are we back the the garage for a tune up.

Peter

Usually if you are at full throttle and it cuts out like youre describing its cause your main jet is overly rich, or maybe theres a restriction in the engine such as a dirty or clogged air filter.

But I was just rejetting mine last night, and when id go too rich on the main jet, when Id hit WOT it would just fall on its face and jerk and not want to do anything.

It's not jecking around when she nose dive's at all. At the start line in second gear he got a flter of a start and when he hit third and gave her full trottle she just dived and everyone passed him before he could recover. It's happening all the time and the plug is fine and the right colour. I must check the carb and so on to make sure it's clean.

is it a stock bike? seriously we need to know what kinds if mods you have done or we really cant help much......the only thing i can think of besides debris in the carb and a dirty filter is if its a stock carb the tors sytem might be messing you up.

OK it's not stock. Port and polished head, standard carb with a small bit machined out of the front, the standard exhast was split and tuned (how this was done I don't know) lightened flywheel and the timing was advanced. When it runs it goes like s**t of a shovel but you have to drive it to half trottle and then some. We are going out to practice tonight and I am going to clean the carb today before we go. The filter is always clean because I change it and spray it before every race.

Good news and bad news. Cleaned out the carb and found a small stone in the jet. Cleaned it and went to practice. Ran like a bat out of hell for all of five laps and then died. Don't know what the hell is wrong with it now. Can you get these 2 stroke's to be relieable at all. Won't start at all now and even cracked the swing arm aswell on the night. Starting to wish I purchased golf clubs for the son to do rather then quad racing but what the hell will strip it again and start all over.

Peter

Ok striped the bike again and the problem now is no spark. Checked all the wire's and everything is ok. Where do I go from here and what else do I need to check.

Peter

OK started with the wiring and everything is ok. Moved to the coil and that is fine aswell. Started to panic a bit until I opened the cover and the magneto fell out into my hand. They had machined to much material off to lighten it and it broke around the centre of it. Hopefully that is the problem.

Where can you get these parts and are there any aftermarket uprated one's available out there. If so does it make much of a difference to the performance of the bike or is standard better.

Peter

Youre talking about the flywheel?

We dont have "magnetos"

We have a flywheel (the round thing that slides on the crank with the magnets on it) and we have a stator (the piece thats bolted to the inside case with the coils and wires on it the flywheel spins around.

Im assuming you meant the flywheel fell apart cause they lightened it.

Yes that's what I am talking about alright. Just got another one today and fitting it right now. Will post and let you know how I get on. Fingers crossed that is the problem.

Went racing today and after a fantastic start the bike broke down again. Crank gone this time. Is there any thresd on this site about rebuilding the crack. What is involved in fitting a + whatever crack. I have seen them advertised but dont know much about it. Also after close examination the pickup's inside the fly wheel look farely bad. What can I do to change these. Thanks for the help lads. Got to get this all sorted by the 30th because we are racing again.
