Well, I think the reason i have low compression is maybe because of my reeds. Just to make sure everything was in order in my carb, I took it apart and made sure everything was tight, then I got curious about my reeds. I have Boyesen Fiberglass Power Reeds. Is there supposed to be like 1mm-2mm of gap between the Reed Cage and reed pedal? That is what mine looked like.

Ok Guys. When i took my compression test. It turned out to be 89psi. With the reeds doing what they are doing now, do you think it is my top end or reeds causing that LOW of compression?

could be both......................

I ran 50:1 with Bel-Ray MC1 on 110 race gas. But when it got cooler (below 50), I keep running a 230 main. I should probably be running a 240 with everything I have on the bike. But when i get the Toomey on, I will be running probably a 320 or a 330. Do I need to mess with the needle?

did you perform the compression test right? warm the bike up, then hook the compression tester up then hold throttle wide open until the needle on the compression tester stops.

Reeds Have nothing to do with your low compression. You can take the cage right out and ck your compression, this being why you ck it with the throttle wide open, you need to get as much air in as possible. When you are checking compression the transfwer ports are covered by the piston going up[the last couple of inches of stroke]. There usually a very small gap in used reeds.

You probably should have been running 32:1.What color is your plug?

Guys, I didn't check it correctly. Let me get my compression tester and check it this weekend. Blaster is at my other house and so is the tester! LOL. I can kick it over very easy. feels like no compression at all. prolly needs new rings and a fresh hone mixing gas at 32:1 with bel ray mc1 and mixing it with 87 octane. good idea?

i would use 93 octane.no detonation with 93I:I and when you get your blaster back do a plug chop to see how your jetting is.

May i add in when i try starting it every few kicks(4-5), I hear a backfire in the exhaust. Like SHUUPPPP shupp. kinda hard to imagine it but anyone know what that is?

Well i aiont mixing 50:1 now. when it started getting colder, i started mixing around 36:1. I didnt wanna foul a plug in the cold, lol

explain this a bit more?

your saying you didnt want to foul a plug in the cold but you switched to running a richer oil mixture, going from 50:1 which is 50 parts gas to 1 part oil, to 36:1, 36 parts gas to 1 part oil is richening the oil mixture :)

50:1 sounds way to lean, 32:1 is the way to go I:I

A while back i had my blaster running 32:1 and it fouled a couple plugs. So i put a little extra gas and thats the trick for me. But when i ran 32:1, it was with 87 octane. Never bothered trying 91 octane at 32:1. I guess I will have to try! For some reason my bike fouls plugs in the winter at 32:1 with 87 octane. Sounds odd but i dont know what else i can say. That is why i ran 36:1. Its not too lean, its just so weird!!!!

OK, Lets review a few things,

Rich or lean refers to carb jetting not oil ratio.

50:1 oil mix will run richer than 32:1 and is not enough oil for your air cooled Blaster.

Your 32:1 oil mix is not causing your plug fouling. your jetting is.

Cold weather will lean you out. Cold air is denser.

The Yamaha manual says 90 octane or better.

Race fuel has more gravity and usually runs around 1 jet size leaner than good pump gas.

The stock or lightly modded Blaster does not need race fuel.

That said, I would do your top end, check your crank seals and for other air leaks, replace your reeds. Mix up your BellRay at 32:1 with some good 94 octane pump gas and JET for your mods and weather.
