hey evryone, i currently have a 400 ex rear shock on mine, i would like to get another 2 or 3 inches in height on the back if possible, i have really low profile tires on the back and it sits pretty low, any suggestions for me, im looking on ebay now and could use some advice
thanx everyoneI:I

ok everyone, i just won the bid on a honda 1983-84 250r shock, i picked it up for 63 dollars and 15 S&H. oooo yeeaaa !!!! from what i gather from talking to people it should bolt right up with a little tweaking (about the same as my 400ex shock)and it also should be about 3 inches longer, which is what i wanted cause i have low profiles on in the back and with my ex shock i have now the quad sits kinda low in the back. I think i should have a nice ride with this 84 250r shock, what is everyone's opinion on this? i should have the new shock in about a week i guess.
this is the item number that i bought on ebay:
150232096400
check it out, tell me what ya'll think

i weigh 174 pounds and the 400ex shock is stiffer than hell for me, it rides stiff, im not sure what im doing with it, prolly hooking someone up with it that can use it .

It looks like it's in good shape, but looks don't mean much. I woudln't expect that thing to hold up to jumping very well. That shock is 25 years old! If the seals are still good in it now and it hasn't all leaked out, I doubt it's going to stay that way long. I can't remember ever seeing an original shock that old that was still in good working condition. What it looks like really doesn't have a bearing on it, it's just a simple fact that rubber seals and shock oil deteriorate over time.

Also, if you rear the description carefully, nothing says that the shock is actually tested to be in good working order. It says that it was removed from a good condition ATC (unlikely that they would part it out if it was in such good condition) and that the condition of the shock is good for its age. What exactly does that mean? Does that mean it works better than most shocks its age (blown out shocks) or does it truly perform as good as it should? I make a habit of never buying shocks more than 5 years old.

yamarider....you act like when a shock leaks the oil out than its junk and needs to be thrown out !!! it doesnt cost much to rebuild a shock, if i spend 60 bucks on a shock and put another 60(at the most) into a rebuild than i still have a good working shock for allot less than a new one would cost. a new shock is several hundred dollars. has anyone had a 250r shock on their bike? how does it ride?

Do you know for sure that it's rebuildable? A lot of shocks are welded and once they're done, they're done. And where are you going to get a shock rebuilt for $60? I know my local shops will just stare at you with a dumb look on their face if you ask them to rebuild a shock.
