my buddy, who's garage i just did my build, went to a salvage yard to find a wrecked/easy fix neon for my buddy's wife, found one, and also an 05 raptor with a bunch of mods...cammed and piped for $800
but the guy says it has a tranny shifting problem
are they know to have a certain tranny problem ?????????
and is it an easy, reasonably priced fix ?????

of course we'll have to split the cases, and prolly at least re-ring while we're in there

they have had a few different threads over on bluetraxx about raptors having issues... i guess they have been flat out blowing the gears out. so id look up how much a good set of gears is for it

also just read that the reverse gear in those trannys is pressed in... so you will need a shop press to remove and reinstall it... if indeed you need to remove reverse

i dont know about them but people that dont know much about atvs and such usally dont know hard to pin point the area well, like 2 years ago i bought a 1997 kx 125 and the guy didnt know anything about he said that the transmission gears were stripped and all it was, was the clutch slipping so i replaced that and ran fine the sold that and bought the blaster oh yeah, so maybe the guy thinks its a trans prob but matbe its somthing simple, i dont know just a little story to maybe help you. lol

after further investigation, seems the 01/02's are the known tranny eaters, and the 05 tranny has been listed as the cure
this is an 05, and is coming on the flatbed with the neon on monday, so we shall see, sale is not final till we figure out what the problem is, and if it's worth fixin

the earlier raptors had a weak second gear, but it took some real idiot moves to break them.

otherwise they have all the same things happen that happen to our blasters and banshees, proly something not put together correctly, or came loose after the build.

my buddy found some aftermarket raptor trans parts online reasonable

good price on a raptor they are great hill climbers

I will tell you my best friend who owns a local ATV repair shop gets several per year that needs tranny work. Awsome motor with a few mods and a blast to wheelie and raise hell. I hate to say it but i really dig the the new fuel injected 700R and would go 4 stroke if i found a steal.
