I got my tool today, to remove the clutch boss. In order to replace crank seal too.

Which I replaced today.

However I did notice when removing the balancer, the dot on it, was not lined up with the other dot on the gear on the crank, that I had to remove to get to the seal.

Wondering, what issue would you you have if it was not lined up ?

I did line it the two dots up, when I put the gears back together. it was off buy 5 teeth.

So what would that do or cuase ? someone must have had it apart before me and did not line it up.

I wonder, if it is part of my current issue. Thats why I ask.

very possibly the vibrations of an "out of balance" motor is what caused the crank seal to go bad
good eye !!!!!!!

Thanks for the reply AWK08.

I'm hoping that I have not gotten into a mess with this used blaster. what looked like a great deal, may turn out to be something more.

I soon will know. with me breakign the clutch boss, in trying to take it off. Then getting the tool to get it off and now removing it to replace the seal.

My rushing, caused that. I got a new clutch boss coming in a few days.

The top end rebuilt. ran for a few seconds, with smoking coming out liek crazy. shut it down and said replace seals.

And Im hoping that will solve the issue. But I got this odd feeling, Im gonna run into more issues. this is what happens when you buy used and blown. lol.

So if no luck come next weekend. Ill take the whole engine apart and start from ground zero during the winter.

My cousin, who has his son who races a blaster. has a spare blaster, for parts, it runs, but is missing the rear plastic. But is going to sell it to me for $100. after there racing season is over with.

So in the long run, I wll have another engine, if needed. but I was hoping to use those parts and the extra parts I got when buying this one to build 2.

I have not foudn any cracks or wholes in the cass, while replacing the seals. so I hope there is not any.

I made my own leak down tester, which I should have done, after I got the top end all back together. in rush to run. Now I realize, Im slowing down and taking it a step at a time.

So once I get it back together, ill do a leak down test.

The most likely area for a broken case is into the transmission area and into the balancer shaft area. There are two thin spots cast into the case to allow clearance for the input shaft and balancer shaft. You cannot see those areas from the outside and BARELY from the top while the top end is off. When you get ready to put it together hold OFF putting the clutch side all back together and go ahead and do a leakdown test, That way you can spray the clutch side seal with soapy water while it's pressurized and make SURE it's not leaking there.

If bubbles blow out of the balancer shaft bearing, you've got a broken case.
