i am in a debate with my friend. we have cleaned his carb and he had the mixing screw 1-1/2 turns out ( witch should be right ) but the bike runs best with the screw adjusted 1/2 turns out. i told him that he needs to re-jet maybe a size or 2 bigger.. am i right? he seems to think that its OK 1/2 turns out because the bike runs well at that setting. with it 1-1/2 turns out its a biotch to start when its cold (6-8 kicks) and seems to sputter occasionally though mid range. 1/2 turns out and the bike fires right off first kick cold and has good power though all the ranges. its a stock blaster with my old DG exhaust, no lid, and uni filter. he jetted it to 260 or 270 i believe its been a few weeks and my brain is mush right now. the only reason why i cleaned it is because he didn't and just put the jet in. i thought it might have has some trash in it because of the stumble it has occasionally but everything was clean and float was right on. :-/ 125ish compression and no air leaks. he does not have the money for a plug chop this week i told him that we would need a couple of 3-4 plugs to play with and he almost sh*t when i told him that we where gonna run them once and cut them up hahaha.. i also told him thats cheaper then an engine :D

The issue is pilot jet not main. What size pilot now? IIRC, with A S 1/2 turn out you should go up one size.

As to plug chops, it's a waste of a perfectly good plug. Unless you are racing pro and need the last little bit of power and can afford to make mistakes. 99.9% wouldn't notice a little less power. If the plug is chocolat brown, you are good to go. As you lean out to "perfect" jetting power increases. As you go past "perfect" power doesn't drop off that fast, BUT exhaust and piston temps rise drastically. Plus if you jet it perfect today with 90* temp and 85% humidity, and tomorrow it's 75 and 50% humidity you may fry it. This may be the only time where fat is beautiful. Plugs are cheaper than pistons. I'm not talking burbleing, farting, bogging fat either.

JMHO, your results may,
and will vary,

THANKS i dont know why i never though about the pilot jet. i have a few that i am not using so i am sure he will be ok with trying that since its a freebie to him haha. i agree with the plug chop thing but i did do it to my bike because i wanted to learn/see for myself what the differences where while going though the jet sizes. thanks again I:I

just run it where it runs good. no harm in having the air screw only 1/2 turn out. may have to adjust idle some but if it runs good like that then grip and rip it!
