Problems when shifting

Well I recently got my blaster running and when I shift through the gears it like gets stuck in neutral it shifts into 1st fine.
Example
1st gear
shift up goes to N
shift up goes to 2nd
shift up goes to N
shift up goes to 3rd
and so on up the 6th gear.
If anyone has an idea for this problem that would be great. My thoughts is bent shifting for or something with the shift star. Thanks

shift star and shifter shaft return spring problems are the first place i'd look
time to pull the clutch cover and see whats going on.
remember to have it up on blocks and be turning the wheels correctly, so the output shaft is turning to check shifting with the engine not running

You have a bucket full of false neutrals while riding? Or is this with the engine off?

Did this happen all of a sudden or progressively worse? Either star is loose on the drum or the "claw" (shift pawl) is worn/loose.

its been like this for quite a while now, but I haven't had time to work on it since Im in College and can't store it up here.
