Ok I have a predator 500 runs great but plastics are rough and it shows signs of being ridden. (Only paid $330 for it for I can't complain). Found a so called project on Craigslist today for a predator 500, took the drive down and he said it was knocking in the bottom end. I heard it a little at his house but it was running fine and knocked for a couple seconds. I paid 600 because it is extremely clean and wors case I swap motors and have a nice one. But he said there were metal shavings in the oil. I had it running and idleing fine no knocking. Even drove fine. I'm going to do an oil change and see what happens. Any idea of what could be the problem?

Tried posting on the polaris forum but that forum is dead lol.

I've heard it could be the one way bearing?

the only one way bearing i remember on a 4 stroke has to do with the starter ?
i had a 400ex come here for repair of the starting system wiring, new solenoid & battery,
it ended up needing a starter one way bearing too, the guy didn't have the $, so paid for what i did and took it.

that would be a good place to start looking before tearing into the engine.

i'd do the engine swap, while repairing the knocking engine, throw it in the sh*tty frame, clean it up some and sale it for more $ to mod the keeper

Ya someone said if it has a aftermarket coil it causes the bearing to go? I don't know it was on the polaris forum. Thing that blows my mind is I had it running and riding for 15 mins no noise what's so ever. At the guys house it idled no noise and it came on for 2 seconds and stopped. I'm thinking oil pump at this point. It's all a guessing game because multiple people I asked have never heard of this happening.

check the oil filter, they usually only go on one way, if wrong.....low/no oil pressure and boom ?
something to look into.

Ya im off school today so ill start looking into it. Oil filter and see comdition, drain oil and see if i see any metal shavings. And so on
