I powder coated my kick starter yesterday and put it on today. First kick and it chipped. What could of I done wrong?

I used a gun I got at harbor freight and a toaster oven with a temp setting. I cooked the part for 10 minutes and let it cool. Then sprayed it until I couldn't see the metal anymore. Then I put it in the toaster oven at 400 degrees for about 20 - 25 minutes then let it cool.

It looked great and seemed strong but first kick chipped it where it hits the metal piece on the foot peg. I thought powder coating didn't chip??? :-/

What did I do wrong? Any help would be great.

Thanks

Ya didn't do anything wrong. Yes it will chip especially if it's bashed pretty good. and kick starts are bashed down.

So its not that it didn't get hot enough or I didn't cook it long enough or not enough powder???

It seems it should be stronger than it is.

Powder coating is very hard , but it is brittle , so it withstands abrasion very well , and is impervious to weather ( water , mud , dirt , etc ) a hard whack and crack!!!!!
