I am currently looking at a 2000 Blaster. The owner said it needed a new top end (it keep losing power when warm and dying). They want $500 for it. I price out a top end kit (piston, wrist pin, bearing, and clips) for about 100 over ebay (wiseco piston) and i would need some gaskets as well. And a bore job about $50 where I am. I was wondering what you guys think, what price would you pay for it. I have attached pictures of the unit.

Not bad for $500. Atleast you have the whole motor on yours to rebuild. I picked up an 03 for $300 that is missing the top end.

Its a good deal for $500. Only problem I would have is that its not a 2003 or higher and it has the cable brakes.

I bought a clean 2002, for $850, road it for 1 weekend and decided the brakes suck and I need to sell it and get hydrolics.. Its my kids bike so brakes are important.

I ended up getting a 2006 for $1200, that needed a top end rebuild.

And the kicker to all this, .. I sold that 2002 for $1300.

Ya, I am a student on a budget so therefore money is tight. I have read some posts that if you keep up the maintenance of the brakes they work just find especially with a shorty rear brake cable.

500 bux is a good deal!!

The loss of power may be a jetting issue.....I have two 2000s. I thought one needed a top end because I know the previous owner and how hard he beat on it. I pulled it apart and the piston/cylinder were within spec. so I just threw new rings in it.

The thing also may just have a dirty air filter. I would just get a new aftermarket one and keep it clean and oiled. You don't need the airbox cover...it kills power. Either way, it probably needs to have the jets changed from the stock 230 to make power the way it was intended to.

Go for it $500.00 is fair for sure. I just picked up a 2001 for $400.00 and yes the brakes are a pain, but that machine looks pretty clean. Forgot to mention that for the $400 I got a little bit of a basket case, and the one your looking to get looks about 100times nicer than my 2001, when i first got it. trying to figure out posting pics on here, wanna but my finished product picture up. Good luck bud whatever you decide to do. nice talking to ya Jeff

I should have some more pictures by the end of the night. The seller also said the price is negotiable, meaning there is no way I'm paying the $500. What would your first offer be on this machine. I was thinking $400 and they would probably counter with $450, and I would take that!
