Plates sticking..

Alright, I've got my blaster back together. New reeds, .40 wiseco piston, fresh clutch kit w/ heavy duty springs, new sprocket, and a boatload of other mods. Engine 1, the stockish wiseco piston blaster...

I took the clutch basket and inner boss off the quad and filed down the grooves to a smooth finish. I did this so it would last a few mx races and delay my purchase of a billet basket for a few weeks.

I have adjusted the clutch pushrod in the motor and the lever arm on the motor lines up with the mark on the case. The clutch lever is properly adjusted. I have done a search, but couldn't find exactly what I was looking for. When I turn the rear wheels with the chain with the clutch pulled in in 1st it does not allow them to move, or does so with an assload of resistance. So I looked at it again and the last two plates, regular friction and steel behind the cushion spring and between the inner boss don't move.

Question is, I haven't started the motor just yet, but want to know if I can get the plates to catch by pulling in the clutch lever and slamming the rear brake downshifting to first? Or slip it 2 times? Would the heat allow the fibers and plates to expand and thus allow them to catch the others in the pack? How do I fix this? The measurements are correct, my pushrod #1 is rounded at the Phillips tip, and I'm pissed.

Please help, maybe it's simple and I'm fretting over nothing. Thanks in advance.

I think you have done everything right you do have the ball between the 2 pushrods don't you? when you lined up the actuator to the case disconnect the cable and with finger pressure on the arm adjust the phillips screw on the cap so it lines up with the mark on the case, at this point the plates are pressed together by the clutch springs, now put the cable on and 1/8 play up top, when you pull the lever the plates are sloppy, this is what you want.

well when i start my blaster in 1st with clutch pulled in it wants to move out. almost like the clutch isnt being pulled but when its warmed up its fine. idk if this helps but experience helps

No I race B class, lol.. got the clutch/gas thing down. I'm saying when I go to disengage the clutch, the last fiber/steel before the inner boss do not catch. I've double and triple checked everything. Replaced the inner pushrod now, ball is in place, new perch/lever and motion pro terminator clutch cable. Got it to run but the clutch is still slipping....

Maybe the basket is worn and I filed too much off? :-/
This is driving me f*cking nuts!

no filing it off is smart your ok, what oil are you using? try mobil1 5W30 car oil and scuff up the steels with a scotch brite preferably in an air tool to give a catchy surface
