I just got done a few months ago rebuilding the top end on the blaster a buddy gave me. I cant get it to idle or run just right. The bottom end is dead and able half to full throttle its okay. It did the whole high revving and slow to come down deal. I was thinking then it was possibly crank seals since it sat so long. Well i decided to fire it up again last night and after pulling in the garage it was dripping crankcase oil. It was real hard to tell where it was coming from but maybe my block off plate? Also it stil ran bad and kinda smoked more than I thought it should be. I drained the oil and it had an odd color, kinda milky and smelled of gas to me. Question is, is this something crank seals are going to fix or it it possible the case halves are leasking. The guy that put it together admitted to using silicone so I dont know if I sould try the seals first ir just split the dang case and chack it out. any ideas?

If its dripping oil its going to be somewhere in the seal of the case halfs. If the crank seals were bad your bike would be burning white smoke. Those are easy to replace. On the clutch side you have to remove the clutch boss and a few gears and on the flywheel side you have to remove the flywheel. Its easy though.

You dont think that would cause the crankcase to be pressurized and therefore blow out oil?

no...fabb is correct..if its a crank seal you will go through plugs and be blowing some smoke out, even some black spooge maybe.,.mine blew allot of black spooge from unburnt oil..case oil, it would drip down the front of my exhaust port,...you have a bad case gasket by the sounds of it..buy a gasket kit(cometic ...etc..) and replace em all..a sure way to tell if your crank seal is bad is to fill your case with atf and run it a few minutes, dont worry , it wont hurt it !!! atf will cause excessive white smoke if its leaking into your cylinder. youll know right away. just like fabb said..to replace em is easy ...., i use a couple self tapping screws and screw em into the side of the seal , dont go too far, ya dont wanna hit the bearing behind the seal....put a couple pliers on em and pull strait out..when putting new one in use a good size pvc pipe or a socket that fits over the crank and new seal..slowly tap new seal in and make sure it goes in square and strait. a little grease on it to make it slide in easy works well...
good luck

The replacement of the seal between the case halfs is going to be a bit more complex. Your going to have to break down the whole engine (remove head and jug and then split the cases) to replace that seal. But if it is leaking it would be in your best interest to fix it ASAP.

I was also thinking and since you say that it is dripping from "somewhere underneath" the bike it may be something as simple as your clutch over gasket is bad and is leaking. I would take a quick look at the gasket and check for quality of the gasket.

My advice with this leak, check all the things that are simple and then, do the more complex stuff.

hum, sounds like i need to refill the oil since i re did the gasket on the block off plate and see what happens. I forgot to mention that the clutch cover had a hole in it and its been JB Welded under where the cover to the oil pump went. I will also dismantle the clutch cover and check that for cracks.
