pistons???

So I chewed up my woodruff key and blew my crankcase...finally got all the parts and im going ahead and replacing all gaskets...what I want to know is after I remove the jug to replace that gasket, how hard is it to put the piston back in? Will I need a ring compressor or are they flexible enough to squeeze together by hand and slip it back in the jug w. Thanks in advance!

how does a sheared woodruff key mean the bottom end is bad??? i sheared 2 keys on my lt and its just fine

you can compress them with your hands and slide the jug back on, that's how i've always done it anyways haha

Awesome, thanks casey. And 4cfed, I made a noon error...the bike quit while I was riding...tightened bolts and finally got it running again not knowing the key was sheared and it was making it run backwards apparently, which I found out when I released the clutch. Before I got time to disengage the clutch, the kickstart gear maxed out and blew the clutch cover and crank case apart...pretty nasty. I've got pics posted of the damage in the tech section.

Don't need to know how to install rings ken lol I've just always used a ring compressor but have heard that I could just man handle them on these things so I was asking you guys..just want to replace the jug gasket while I've got it apart thats all

just make sure you have the ring gaps on the alignment pins or it will not go on

ahh ok.. makes more sence... mine wouldnt ever start when it sheared the key lol

Lol mine wouldn't either but I tightened the flywheel nut so im sure that got it back in timing enough to run. It ran slightly rough so I should have killed it, oh well good learning experience. Never had it happen on any of my dirt bikes so I was just completely ignorant to the fact that it could make it run backwards.

My little bros old ass Suzuki 175 street/trail turned all trail did that.we still arent sure how or why but he went out to ride started it and put it in gear let out the clutch and the bike shot backwards.i replaced the stator after trying it in ever position and the new one made it run just fine.he sold it shortly after.
