piston slap??

all the times ive had piston slap, its been mainly at idle. but also when i hear weird noises i stop riding it and tear it down, so not to let something easily fixed turn into a nightmare. also before tearing it down, check all your motor mount bolts. if the front one is loose it will make a loud noise very similer to piston slap. it will also vibrate

Mine was making that noise as well. I took it apart to find the piston was clanking around inside the cylinder. Everything was scratched to hell, and the skirt had some cracks in it. Glad I tore it down before grenading the whole damn thing!

In other words, pull your top end off and see what it looks like.

what these guys are saying is correct. at an idle you can hear it much easier. It would be much safer to tear down the top end. a rebuild in the top will not be as expencive as It becomes to let it go till it quites on its own.
