hi, im about to get a yamaha blaster but the owner right now says that he's piston rings are bad.He says it starts up but starts to rev high. what i wanna know is, is this true and what should i look for so i dont buy a blaster with a crack block or something. anyting helps... thank you

for one if it was piston rings it would be difficult to start. wouldn't make it over rev. sounds like sticky throttle or a carb problem if it revs too high. piston rings make bike or quad dull to kick or if there gone the bike won't start.

thats a sure sign of a dirty pilot jet or an airleak < which could come from any number of places...carb, carb intake boot, intake gaskets, head or base gasket, bad crank seals, leaking case halves or even cracked cases

worn piston rings are known to cause hard starting

i wouldn't touch that without doing a leakdown and compression test to verify the problem
or unless it was dirt cheap and you have the funds to put into possibly rebuilding it

sounds like an air leak
or the carb is stuck

bring a compression tester with u and see what its at

should be between 110 and 130 stock
