Hi All I am new to this forum but thanks in advance for any help. I read a lot already and have some good insight on what went wrong but I would like some advice.

Background I just bought this blaster 2 weeks ago and only rode it a few time, Its a 2000 and has some wear and tear but it was in overall very good condition. Previous owner I know had the oilpump off and told me he was using a 32:1 mixture. I read and spoke to a few who said on this old of a bike it may be to low and I should be using closer to 20:1. Either way please see below, when I got the bike I put a brand new spark plug on and drove for 2 days here is what it looked like. (i think it was running good please comment).

So after a week of sitting I started the bike and to my own fault did not let it warm up to good and drove it, I didn't kill it but I wasn't gentle to it either. Also I stopped then started (like 30 sec) then stopped then started (another 30 secs to a minute) then seized LOL not a good combination. Basically I drove fast back and forth from a barn i had it in to get something. I have heard about cold seizes and also heard that term is sometimes bs depending on who you talk to but could that, be in combination with the bike being old and maybe lean on the oil.

Here is the first shot when I took off the head to see the seized piston: (its pretty black but from reading cause its uniform that isnt a bad burn, maybe a little rich but overall not to bad - please let me know what you think)

Finally with some pb blaster and a breaker bar on the crank from the magneto side it broke loose, with what I would say was little effort.

FYI the bike started with one kick right before it seized.

Ultimate QUESTION do I need to get this rebored?

Here is it you can see the scratch from the ring getting stuck, it was on the exhaust manifold side:

here i just put the ring where it was stuck so u can see, since i pulled the ring out

Here is on the intake side as you can see the wall is pretty clean, FYI I polished the top of the piston to remove the carbon, (is that a bad Idea?)

I wasnt able to get the cylinder off yet I been letting the bolts sit in pb blaster but they are on super tight.

Here are shots from the exhaust manifold (not the best but piston doesnt look to bad) (streaks i see I think are just oil not being smooth across cylinder wall against piston hard to tell).

I was thinking of just buying new rings and trying to see if it works, the crank spins smooth still not without the broken ring in the way now. But I dont know if this engine was ever modified so not sure if its stock rings or not.

Let me know what you all think. Again thanks for all advice.

Ken from Oconnor racing and or anyone else I took pictures of the crank do you think it is ok. I got a .020 feeler gauge inbetween to measure play. Any advise much appreciated. It is a little blue/gold on the top only. Also looking at my cylinder again the piston ring did more damage then I though, how do you know if the cylinder has been bored before I would hate to send it somewhere and they say to me sorry you need a new cylinder.
Since I can only post 10 pictures here is a link of all my pictures including the new crank pictures.

of course thats gonna need rebored, the local machine shop will tell you how much and what oversize piston to buy, if you dont have a local shop go here, give ken a call, well worth the piece of mind to ship it, the only one who touches my motors.................
Ken OConnor Racing, High Performance Motocross Engines, Performance Modifications, Motorcycle valve jobs, Motorcycle Crankshaft Rebuilds, Motocross Cylinder Porting, Motocross Cylinder Head Porting
if you try to just re-ring that it's gonna go again and waste your money, just do it right the first time

and only ever run 32:1 oil/gas mix

thanks awk08 i saw some prices online like $150 for a rebore and new piston and rings and gaskets. I wish I had a local shop but I dont. I will call that place u suggested. Thanks

ya deffinetly have it rebored, It looks like it was jetted right, but you can get excess carbon fouling from idleing. I know I'm bad about not letting my bike warm up well, some people reccommend warming it up till the cooling fins are hot to the touch, as hot as it has been I've been letting it idle for 30seconds to a minute, burping the throttle every so often, but I also do some slow sleep riding and not really bashing on it to start out. could have just been sh*tty luck
