Does any recommend this? I have looked around online nad many say don't do it. My gas tank cover is black and I want it red. Can I paint it and if so with what type of paint?

well they make spray paint for plastics its more flexible but red wont cover black very well its gonna be a super deep red. and it will eventually chip off.. your best bet would be to pick up a red one on ebay they cant be that expensive at all

you can paint it, you just need to do it correctly.
you can cover black, but it will be hard.
if would be easier to get a used red one and just make it look new.

wet sand, paint, wet sand, paint, until your content, i covered factory blue with white and it looks great, how well it will hold up is yet to be decided, i used rustoleum plastic paint, painted a piece of scrap plastic first to see how flexible it was after drying and i was impressed enough to do all my plastics with it so i guess we'll see, if it messes up or doesn't last your out 4 bucks and little time and then you can get the color you want, just my 2 cents

Thanks for all the information. I painted them this weekend, the black covered very well and the red isn't deep at all, it took a few coats. Looks good. I:I

i would just buy new plastic if i were you,but if your set on painting it theres special paint thats made for like remote control car bodies that'll work.Go to any rc hobby store and you will find some.other than that i have no clue where to get it,I guess you can check at a walmart or some places like that. =-)

I just sanded my rear fenders today for an hour or two, hopefully I'll be able to get some paint down tomorrow. I'm spraying them white( they are currently yamaha blue) and then I'm going to switch to black if I don't like it. Using Krylon Fusion.

make sure you let the paint cure its probley gana take longer than nomoral because its colder out it took like two weeks for my oil pump cover to stop smelling like wet paint
