I have read on here that our blasters take 650 mL (just over 2/3 a quart) of oil. After my blaster ran dry on oil I went to flush it out and fill it with oil to see if anything was severely damaged when it went dry on me. Well I flushed it out real good and went to fill it up and it only took about 1/3 of a quart to fill it to the top of the sight glass. I didn't want to overfill it so I assumed I just needed to let it run a bit to splash around and then refill it later. I ran it for a bit and then let it sit overnight to settle and then I went back and put more in. It still only took a splash more to fill it back to the top of the sight glass. I have since done that about 2 more times and each time it only takes a splash more to fill it to the top. I have only put a grand total of just over a 1/2 quart of oil in it even after topping it off each time. Still nowhere near what it calls for. I was also a bit worried about it burning transmission oil since I have to top it off each time but I am really confused as to why I still after running it and topping it off 3 times haven't been able to put 2/3 of a quart like it calls for. Any ideas what could be going on?

The sight glass lies.

Drain all the oil out and refill with 650ml.

I am concerned that the tranny looses oil, does it leak out.

If it is not leaking, you may have a crankshaft seal problem which must be replaced before the engine destroys itself!

No it does not leak out of the transmission. I was just concerned that I had to add a tiny bit each time to top it off again. So you say that the marks on the sight glass do not show the right amount of oil in the transmission? I just need to measure out 650 mL and pour it in? how will I know if it actually is burning the oil. It doesn't seem to smoke any more than usual but that doesn't mean that a small amount might be getting in.

The sight glass will show you that there is oil in the box, but not the amount.

When you run the bike oil will be transferred to another place in the box and the window may show low oil one time and another time over full,

I cannot be relied on to show the correct amount.

A leak test will prove if it is burning oil, it should be done twice a season for good reason.

Google Blaster leak down test!,

Is it sitting on flat ground when checking the oil level ?

I've totally rebuilt 5 of these, and worked on countless others, each time I've added 650ml, it was very close to dead on with the top line.

Yes it was. Unless there is more to draining it than removing the plug, I drained it completely and only could get 1/3 quart in before it was at the very top of the sight glass

I usually go for a short ride before draining the oil. Gets everything stirred up and thins the oil so it drains easier. Just be careful things will be warm at the least

When filling from empty, often the sight glass will lie about the amount of oil in the box.

Sure fire way of knowing if you have the correct amount of oil is to warm up the engine before draining.

This will allow just about all the old oil to flow out.

Re fill with 650mm of fresh oil.

drain it out,and funnel it into an empty bottle of trans oil, then it will tell you how much is in there, refill with 650ml of fresh oil.....when it is not running it will look full, when it is running it should be between markings on sight glass.
if you are concerened you are loosing oil, then fill it 650ml run it for a lil while then drain it into,funnel/empty bottle of trans oil...measure it o_O
if it was burning oil you should be able to smell it stinky out of exhaust,or a puddle under quad try some cardboard underneath quad over nite then see if it has oil on it ;)

every bottle has the measurments on the side of bottle,to take all the math out of the equation, pour a fresh bottle out until it reads 650ml,then pour all of it into your blaster

If one is to rely on the sight glass to check the oil level, the engine must be warmed up for a few minutes.

The engine must not be running when checking the oil level.

Alright thanks guys for the info. The engine was not running but it was also not warm. I'll just warm it up by a quick run with it then drain it and measure 650 to put in it and just ignore the sight glass until after I ride it some
