oil getting past the rings?

so i just bought a blaster for my girlfriend for $500 with a blown motor. i rebuilt the motor and it runs, but it seems as if gear oil is getting past the rings, burning and faulling the plug. the piston and rings are new. the oil injection block off kit was installed by the previous owner but could be possibly botched. what are the odds that the block off is fubbard and thats why im burning gear oil?

sounds like you need to put new crank seals in. there should be NO tranny oil in your crank area. the premix is how the crank is lubricated.
if your exhaust smells like plastic burning you have a leaky crank seal

Also check the rings and make sure the ends are not in the same place they should be on oppisite sides of the piston this would cause oil to go right through the rings to the top of the head.. the little gap in the rings should be opposite to each other.. if they are lined up oil can seep right through

Wow. You clearly don't understand how a 2 smoker works. There is oil IN THE FUEL. There is fuel/oil mix IN THE CRANKCASE. The fuel/oil mix is supposed to travel from the crankcase TO THE COMBUSTION CHAMBER. They are SUPPOSED TO BURN OIL!!!

As already stated, if there is gear oil being burned, it is not a result of a top end problem but crank seals most likely.

Are you sure it's tranny fluid. If it is for sure gear oil than dont worry about the top end, probably crank seals. If it's not tranny fluid than probably 1 of many things (but you dont have to split case). You got a good strong spark? Can you run compression test?

ya but aint there gear oil under the piston Im not retarded I know it burns 2 stroke oil... So if theres gear oil under the piston and it is going through the rings and burning this would not be 2 stroke oil...

nope there should not be any gear oil under the piston. the only oil that lubricates the piston assembly is the oil you mix in your gas or the oil thats injected , whichever setup you are using

I had the same problem and it was indeed my crank seals.. But I also took auto class and learned that if your piston rings line up oil will trave through them.

well that makes more sence.. Im more of a four stroke guy but Ill work on anything with an engine lol .. I just thought the tranny fluid lubricated crank and bearings..

if your piston rings line up your quad wont start due to lack of compression.

also the piston wont fit in the bore because the rings seat in grooves against the piston and have stops for the piston ring gaps to line up where they are supposed to be.

the tranny fluid is sealed in the transmission, it lubricates the gears and the clutch. thats why you can stand a two stroke up on its nose and not leak oil over into the upper combustion chamber, whereas if you take your car and stand it up all the oil will seap past the rings and possibly hydrolock your engine.

lol well this could be the reason the engines were starting in shop they had more than one cylinder lol. But that makes allot more sence now.. We got into the 2 stroke but not very detailed.. just basic. sucks air gas mix in on downword ignites on top ignition pushes piston down goes back up to push exhaust out lol i just figured bottom ends would kind of be the same but GUESS I WAS WRONG
