I got an 03 that will not top out for the life of me. I cant figure it out:( I opend the carb today and it still looks brand new in there. I pulled the reeds out and they still look really good. Is there anything i can check before i take it to a dealer??? When i start it, it runs like crap for about 20min. after that it starts to pick up. Low end is kinda weak to, mid range rips really hard and then it bogs off at 3/4 to full throttle. Any help would be much appreciatedI:I

is your airlid off?, do you have good compression?, iff your airlid is off what jet do you have?, what all is done to the bike or is it stock and have you removed your TORS unit?, those are all helpfull bits of information, i had a bad powerloss in the top end cause i needed a rebuild, after that the thing ran great even in 6th gear, and with a pipe, omg did the thing rip

The only thing done to it is an fmf pipe, and maxxis. Other then that its stock. I also noticed when i got it there was no air filter on it. I asked the previous owner and she said her son had takin it off before they stored it. So i put a k&n on there, but there is no airlid on it. Is there anyway to check the compression at home?

rent a gauge from autozone no lid and airfilter and pipe u need bigger jet then stock 260main i would start there..Check reeds to make sure there ok check for warps and cracks

I checked the reeds today and they look brand new, one had a lite brown tint starting in one corner. And I know it was piped by the dealership, And i would asume they would jet it at the same time? Is the airlid really missing really enuff to bog me down that much? its pertty dramatic:( but if i feather the throttle in mid range it will damn near flip over on me!

Oh i also have the carb in front of me, How do i tell what size the needle is? also what clip position do u guys run it at?

i run mine at 3rd clip from top your main jet is on the bottom u have to take the bowl off and its a brass hex head it will say what size it is on it your pilot jet is 32.5 i do believe stock so..hope that helps

i got that right here and it reads 360. so I guess its been jetted at one point. thx a bunch, Ill head to autozone for a guage tomarrow thx again!!!

like fast lane said try a smaller jet, possibly a 310, and yes the airbox lid probably has to come off, that engine is starving for air, the stock airbox is very poorly designed, and needs all the air it can take!
