Just bought my first blaster, anyone have any advice on how to get started. Im not sure what year it is yet, and the only problem is a broken clutch cable, but overall i got a great deal on it. The owner said that i should always turn the gas off when not in use, and that if i had trouble starting it, then i should roll start it. Is this normal?

If the motor wont start by kicking, then there is something wrong.

I never turn off my gas, a clean and properly adjusted carb will stop the fuel flow.

Any 2 stroke bought second hand deserves a leak down test, as a lot of the time sellers want to get rid of the bike as it is not running properly.

Low compression can make it hard to kickstart.

Do a compression test and if it is below 100psi, take the exhaust pipe off and look up the port for piston/ring damage.

It would be a good idea to leak test before you ride.
