Just "bought" my 1st quad... A 1991 Blaster, I have to mow the guys yard for the rest of the summer as payment :))))).

the only 2 problems I am having is it does not want to start unless I remove the sparkplug and prime it. Then it starts on 1st kick and runs like a raped ape. I replaced the sparkplug and it started 1st kick for a few days, then back to the same. The plug looks slightly oily but dry after i try to kick it. I also cleaned the air filter which was filthy but it didnt help.

the 2nd problem is when i leave off the throttle and coast (in gear) there is a binding noise. I thought the chain adjuster was not lined up the same on both sides so I adjusted it. It seemed to help for a little while but it is doing it again. It also sounds like it is binding on the front sprocket but I cant be sure because I cant ride and look at the same time!!

When I make sharp low speed 180 degree turns should the back outside wheel be skidding?

Thanks for your responses

well ill start with the easy one first
your back wheel are locked together and when you are turning the outside wheel will either lift off the ground or it will skitter along. perfectly normal.

and are both of the chain rollers in place along with the rear slider ? take a look at them and if you have no bottom roller or chain slide the noise you are hearing could be the chain grinding against the skidplate or your swingarm

Does it idle out of control after you get it started? If so, you have an air leak. DO NOT RIDE IT WITH AN AIR LEAK!!!!! You will fry the piston! Get the air leak fixed before you ride it again. With it running spray carb cleaner all around the joints at the carb, cylinder base, and head. You will hear a dramatic change in idle when you find it. If you don't find it there, check your crank seals and oil seals. If you run it too much and then fix the leak, you won't have much time left until it dies on you and won't start unless you pull it started and then it won't idle. Guess what that is: you guessed it, your piston and cylinder are screwed. Good luck!

It idles fine when it starts. After some attempts I figured out the choke is spring loaded...If I hold the choke all the way, then kick it, it starts first try. I will take carb apart tomorrow and clean everything

cleaned the carb, checked the reeds, they are withing specs. no cracks and look good. Cept for the binding noise every now and then everything is fine, thanks!!

Doesnt idle out of control until it is hot. Did the air test and it didnt change so i guess its the oil seal or crank seal. I REALLY dont feel like screwing around with that. Prolly take it and trade it in while it runs

The seals are really easy to replace. You don't have to take the engine apart. Just take the side covers off and you can change them. Don't try to screw someone else because you are lazy!

Let me rephrase........I do not have the technical knowhow to do this..Is that better fsuroxu?

That's why my Blaster's engine blew out! FML.
I ignored its revving on its own. D;
