I need some help.. When i did my top end rebuild last fall i had pulled the shift lever out of the case when takin the clutch cable off of the motor. Everything went smooth except now the lever will NOT slide back down into the case.
That is my problem.
Someone had told me that there is a pin inside witch locks it in place. And i would have to take the hole clutch assembley off from the other side to be able to back this pin up to allow the piece to drop in and lock in place.
I noticed that there is a drilled hole (not factory) right inline with this pin.. like this problem has happend before and thats how they tried to fix it i guess.. buy stickin something in to push the pin in.. but it dont seem to move when i try to push it..
Sorry so long.. wanted to be detailed.. i been going CRAZY and now it's nice out!!! any help would be fantastic!!!!!! thanx..

your friend is kind of right, there's a pin, but its actually what actuates the clutch. look down into the hole with a flashlight and see if you can see anything sticking out into the hole.

Looking at the diagram there's a push rod then ball bearing then another push rod that rests on there that disengages the clutch when pulled, looks to me that the clutch will need removed to get that pin away so you can slide that assembly in there. -Bob

Yeah thats what i was thinkin.. hoped it wasn't gonna be that big of a deal... Thought maybe might get some luck with it havin that hole drilled.. It's so close to being done too.. now i gotta go poppin covers off.. wish i could just smash it in with a hammer.. (not really).. well thanx for all the help.. I guess i should try to find a book...

i could get mine back in without pulling the clutch apart, but if you have to, you can get away with just pulling the 5 bolts that hold the springs to the pressure plate if you need the room

i didn't even think about tryin that.. i'm sure if i loosen them up it should go right in.. Thanx man.. Then i just hope i did everything right and she starts up.. it's been so long since i did the top end i hope everything is still good..Well thanks so much for everyones help.. been going nuts..

I just replaced right main bearing seal which requires removing clutch boss. I didn't notice that shaft had slipped out. It is possible to loosen five nuts off pressure plate and slip back in. Be sure to align clutch mechanism pointer with pointer on crankcase for maximum adjustment of clutch w/ cable prior to installing crankcase cover.
