ok guys im new to this forum and i just picked up a 2000 blaster today. i drove it a little tonight but it does not have front brakes and the back brake cable is shot...how much will that cost to replace? also the wires look a little nigger rig ( no offense to anyone ) what should i do about that? its only kick start and it takes a few kicks usually. the kill switch does not work so i have to put it in gear an let off clutch to kill it...how do i fix that? also i need to know what i should do to "tune it up" or make sure nothing is messed up on the inside.
 
for the rear brakes dont bother replace them..... if your any good at metal fab make up some new mounting brackets and mount on some good hydraulics on there I:I
 
Welcome to the site once again.....

I had the same issue with the kill switch when I got mine. I had to disconnect it from the CDI box to shut it off (had other issues that wouldn't allow me to dump the clutch in gear to kill it) and then I took apart the kill switch and cleaned everything. Finally put it back together and it worked fine!

Hey bro, have you ever worked on dirtbikes or quads before?
I suggest you get a copy of the manual first. It can be your bestfriend when learning about your bike.
There is a downloadable one on the site just cant seem to find LOL.

As for only being a kick start thats the only way the come.
How many kicks does it take when it hot and cold?

To tune it up you,
1: change the plug
2: clean or replace the airfilter.
3: change the trans/gear oil. I use 10W30 Pensiol

Does it still have the oil injection system on it? Do you mix the gas and 2cycle(premix) or do you add 2cycle to the oil jug under the seat and just put gas in the tank?

For the brakes you should fix the fronts and I wouldnt worry too much about the rear for now.

You should go through the harness and rewrap it nice and neat.

hey fioz thanks for the help. it usually starts on two or three kicks. and i have NEVER worked on four wheelers and very seldom and not in too much detail on dirtbikes. I am going to take it by the shop tom and get them to look at it... ill post details of what the guy said when i figure out and let me know if its worth keeping or not

2 or three kicks isnt bad at all. You can get alot of great info on the site bro. A shop if you dont know anybody there can get expensive. The Blaster is easy to work on. You should be able to most everything yourself.
If you have questions dont hesitate to ask.
 
ok i brought it by the shop today and hopefully i will find out what is wrong tomorrow. the ignition and the kill switch are both disconnected and the wires are rigged up . i may have to get a new wiring harness....how much will that cost me? also need new front and rear tires...and im wanting to put some chrome rims on there but i want them to be able to hold up if i race or ride trails and not crack or bend...any suggestions on both tires and wheel combo? also what size would i need? thanks!
 
you shouldnt have taken it to the shop because everyone on here cab basically tell you whats wrong with it.a harness off ebay is probably around $20.dont get it from the shops there rip offs.for the killswitch you can get one on ebay for cheap.front brake pad are cheap to.mostly everything for the blaster is fairly cheap.if u need help there is very knowledgable people on here.theres also engine builders.if yoy have any questions just ask around and you will get an answer
for rims:itp's or douglas .190
for tires:razrs or holeshots
 
i really like the ITP ss112 sport rims but i dont know which kind of tire or what size to get..ill be doing mostly trails but maybe some racing also...anyone have some input? i may just dump this quad and get a newer z400 lol if anyone is interested in this and lives in the arkansas area let me know
