What is NEEDED to put a banshee axle onto a 88-02 blaster? Im hearing diff theories, and would like to set it straight not only so i know what i need to buy, but for other people that would like to take this route.

Only thing you need is the banshee axle, and the 03-06 rotor hub. Thats on my 03-06 bike. Pretty sure thats it. If you have an older bike with older rear brakes maybe just the axle with your 88-02 rotor hub.

I had to use the Banshee brake hub with mine because it was older then 03. The 02 and older Blaster has a sliding brake hub. Banshe and 03 up Blaster don't.

how about wait for a opinion from awk08 or maybe ken oconnor. i'm sure they will tell you that you do not want to end up with a fixed rotor along with a fixed caliper. in the other post, you later mentioned adding a caliper from a street bike. yeah, it could work but then you will encounter a host of fabrication obstacles that you may not have thought about.

Im sure demons is right if hes had the set up and so have I?

it is right that you can put a banshee axle on the older style blasters. it's going to require other things to be done, though. i'm just letting chris know that he does not want to end up with a fixed caliper and fixed rotor.

Banshee axle and a banshee brake hub or a 03 up brake hub. Pretty sure thats the one

yeah that will bolt it up but if one leaves the stock caliper on and you end up with a fixed rotor and fixed caliper, then there will be a issue that i believe you fail to see.

the swap does require at least the axle and brake hub/rotor,
i've never done it myself.

i believe a problem arises when trying to use the cable brakes with the shee axle in a pre 03 carrier, the caliper doesn't align ???
a full rearend swap (carrier, axle, brake hub/disc & hydro brakes) is needed to completely convert to blasty/shee hydro's

I do know some folks run my gsxr brakes/fixed caliper with the fixed rotor of the shee axle (demon ect.) the dual pistons allow it, as each piston moves independently of the other for even brake pad wear, even when not perfectly aligned

if fabbed up streetbike brakes are your plan, then it will work with just the axle/brake hub & disc, as the fabbing/spacing can be made to center the caliper.

The 88-02 caliper can't be used with the 03+ rotor and axle. The pads are not aligned.

If you have the 88-02 carrier, the spacing is far enough back that you can make an adapter plate to bolt a later model caliper on but you have to use the whole caliper bracket and all to allow the caliper to slide on its pins.

If you find a 03+ blaster carrier to use with the banshee axle and hub, it will be a bolt on affair except the master cylinder end. Obviously, you'll need to fab something to make that end work correctly as the 88-02 frames don't include master cylinder mounting tabs.

awk, i knew the gsxr caliper would work fixed, along with a fixed rotor because as you state, the independent dual pistons. a stock pre 03 caliper would not work for reasons we both understand. glad you chimed in and help shed light on the subject.

If you are trying to fit rear hydraulic brakes onto the back with the stock axle, you have another option too. I removed the parking brake equipment from a hydraulic caliper and made a bracket to mount to that flat area and onto the 88-02 carrier and left the disc floating. Just another option for putting hydraulic brakes on.
