Leaky carb maybe?

So I've had my blaster for a couple days now, and its a blast! I came out to the garage this morning to the strong smell of gas. I found a tiny puddle and what I believe is my carb vent line.. What could cause it to leak from this? Is it because I left the gas on reserve?

I just took a couple laps around my field, let it cool down, turned gas to off... Ill see what happens in the morning - Thanks guys

mine did this for the longest time ever and i couldn't stop it because my petcock (fuel valve) is messed up and the off doesn't work. i just got an inline fuel valve and turn it off every time i stop the motor and haven't had a single problem since.

could be the little needle valve in the float assembly... my carb would leak because the rubber tip on the needle valve had a groove from being old and would not seal correctly so fuel constantly was filling the float and overflowing... just had to buy a new one and no more leaks.... also, even if you leave your fuel "on" it should never leak... im pretty sure its the little needle valve, just take a look at the float assembly and you will see what i mean...

+1 on the needle valve. Just went through that 2 weeks ago on another bike and after carefully cleaning it all out the needle tip and where it seats, it works fine.

Caseywoods idea of an inline cutoff valve is great as it knocks out both potential dripper issues---petcock not shutting off completely and/or float bowl overfilling.

heres my little tip of the day............
the stealerships want $58+ for a float valve, you get one in the $12 ebay moose carb rebuild kit ?????
new flaot valves and a properly adjusted float = never have one drop and never turn my gas off on either of my blastys

They want 58 at the stealership?!!??!!! Bikebandit.com shows 16.32 for the needle valve set!! I need one because i've scraped the coating off of the sides of the needle valve and it keeps sticking after sitting for long periods of time. In the past I've found that bikebandit.com prices are usually pretty close to the price the stealership wants, sometimes they've been the same!

I believe that it is the float for the needle valve that is probably to blame. I always keep something below the vent because even if you have the fuel shut off (which you always should) with changes in temp the fuel in the bowl will expand and contract and you'll get a little dripping out as it cools. Generally speaking, if you keep your quad in a garage or someplace cool, when you put it away after use the float bowl will be full, and as it cools, the volume of the gasoline in the float bowl will go down. This will open the valve and make more gas come in. If your carb never gets really hot in storage, nothing should be coming out of the overflow, but if it's stored in direct sunlight it could get hot and then the volume of the fuel in the bowl increases due to the increased temp and purges out the overflow valve.

I have oil absorbent pads underneath where I park my quad and I have the float valve adjusted pretty well....probably not 100% correctly but darn near close. I occasionally get some drips and I keep mine in the garage.

If you get a lot of drippage or straight up leakage from the carb, your float is way off. Even having it parked at different angles can affect the float valve!
